why does the vin plate says that this is an LV???

The LV VIN is not correct for that vehicle, it is a Troopy---the vehicle was illegally imported and the individual used the LV VIN so that they could get plates to drive the car. If you get in an accident with a vehicle with an altered VIN you had better be prepaired to loose your home. An LV is strickly a four door wagon. Run from this one.

That one has been discussed before....run like hell from that one. It's illegal in many different ways. x2 on never getting in an accident and good luck trying to resell it

The "story" should be the red flag, not the VIN plate.

The plate says LV because it's left hand drive with a hardtop. It is not a NA style VIN plate. 45 designates lwb, L left hand drive, and V hardtop, just as LT said. Also 2F designates a 2F motor, H41 an H41 transmission, and paint codes are well, paint codes................ not your typical <67' LV fare. Now if the tag doesn't match the frame, or the VIN does not correspond to a 1984 non-US 45, that's different. Not an expert here, but use a little logic.

Again, not saying anything about how it got it's registration. The whole 1970 -1984 - 1964 thing should be a giant red flag...........could be straightened out next year? But the plate itself is - probably - maybe correct.

Foxfab - this troopy was illegaly imported into the US using a vin tag from a 64 LV. If someone were to crash it their insurance would find out and deny the claim - possibly resulting in the owner being sued for any and all damages. Not worth the risk. It could be possible to get around that by re-importing it next year when the correct vin tag is 25 years old?? I dunno. There was a thread somewhere - maybe in the FJ45 classifieds - can't remember - lots of members chimed in about this same Troopy.

Not picking a fight or defending the cruiser, but the VIN tag pictured is not from a '64 LV, I'm just bothered by this getting repeated as fact. It is probably correct to the vehicle. Again, it is the sellers story that is the red flag and any buyer should be thinking about what it really means to import an '84 and register it as an earlier year.

............ forget it. :censor:

VIN plate is the correct VIN for what that 45 really is and suspect its the orignal VIN plate and has not been swaped out.....its correct

My apologies for talking out of my ass - and not being clear.

Cruiser_nerd

You are correct. I was going from memory of the previous thread. :o I went and actually read the add. The fact remains that the vehicle was illegally represented as a 1970 to get around the 25 year law on importation (I assume - I wonder how they got away with that!). It was subsequently represented as a 64 model year and registered in Oregon. The insurance issues as well as legal ramifications of driving an illegally imported vehicle are what I was trying to get accross. And as you stated this is a story that should give any buyer a huge red flag.

Landpimp

I never said anything about phisically swapping out the vin tag - they likely never altered the vehicle at all - just miss-represented it to the clerk at the DMV. Do you have mandatory inspections on any vehicle brought in from out of state?? We do here in Alberta.

Forget about the VIN tag - The history is the issue.

I does seem to be a very nice Troopy if it could be made legal and the authorities don't confiscate and crush it. It's almost 25 years..... perhaps it could be "re-imported" on paper and made legal??

Really - cause the pics look pretty good.

You've seen it then?

Any more history? I'm interested in the story - not buying the truck.
