I have to say having seen the LX and LC up close; the attention to details really make a difference on the LX this time around! There used to be a price gap between the two of 10-15K which made the decision easy as to which one to buy. Before the differences were not that noticable with the exception of the body exterior clading better stereo and real wood. Now it seems Toyota really skimped on the materials that went into the LC; you have to take a look for yourself. Matter of fact I took a look at the new Seqoia 08 and was suprised at the similarities of the interior; actually the interior looked better! this coming from a LC driver of 10 years...

I have not seen the new LX so I cannot really comment on that. What I can comment on is the quality of the interior of the 2008 LC. I must disagree with your comments on Toyota skimping on materials.

I have had acura's for the past 6 years before my LC and I find the LC to be as good of quality. There is nothing cheap about it.

I have to definitely AGREE on this. Even paying that $60K at a Toyota dealership, you are not treated any better than someone who bought a Camry. At Rover, you get treated like a diplomat each, and EVERY time you walk through the door. The last time I went to Rover to purchase a coffee cup, when I walked through the door, a man standing there I never met before said, "Hello, Mr. ****, I believe your salesman is busy, but can I offer you a coke or anything else while you wait?" The guy knew MY NAME, and I had never met him before. I later found out he was the new Manager, and he had studied all the customers files, and especially repeat customers like myself who had bought more than one Rover from that dealership. When I drive my Range Rover, or my Land Rover DII, I feel like I am riding in a class act 4wd vehicle. As well, I know I can drive it just about anywhere. Certainly anywhere a Land Cruiser can go.

All true. But, all things being equal, the Cruiser is going to cost a lot less to run over time and spend much less time in the service bay.

I'm all for status marques and understand the sometimes intangibles of car enthusiasm and ownership (see my sig below), but the Cruiser, for me, has all of the capability, history, character, and mystique of the Rover at a lower cost and with greater reliability. Like an old Mercedes, it's the vehicle that will go the distance. We used to say that if a Rover wasn't leaking, it was empty... :flipoff2:

Take my comments with a grain of salt. I immensely admire and respect Rovers, but I just happen to be a Cruiser (and Mercedes) guy. What can I say?

But remember, I am a Mercedes, Cruiser AND Rover guy !!

I have gravitated to the LC for many reasons over the years. The MAIN difference maker beteween a LC and a RR for me has been that there isn't a LR dealership in my city. That might have changed because I have been offered a very good deal regarding service from my nearest LR dealership if I get a new RR. As long as I'm under warranty they will pick up and return it to me. Granted, the rr I am considering is substantially more costly than the 200, the LX will be more of a direct competitor to the RR. I have shied away from the LX in the past but I might be more interested this time around. And yes, I have been put off with the LX in the past because of some things I refer to as "fluff". That fluff refers mainly to cosmetic things, nothing mechanical. And, I would rather own a Land Cruiser than a lexus. That all might change when I see the new LX in person...

I find it more than a little interesting that with all of the members here on mud there is only ONE person with a 200. I know that they are just hitting showrooms but still, just one 200 ???

So Jack of all trades...master of none?

Does anyone else even matter?

Seriously, I am kind of surprised also. but I don't know how these things normally work when newer models come out.

Let's face reality. It's a $75K suv. Not many people buy them and of the ones that do, even fewer are going to actually hit the dirt with it. I think 1 owner on a offroad forum within a couple months of introduction is pretty good!

Most probably don't even know it's avail. yet.

I don't like the LX570's bulbous center stack or psuedo-Rover gauges, but it does look upscale and different from the LC. LC's interior looks more 'sporty'

Nope, we're just more evolved! :flipoff2:

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

AHHHHHHHHHHH my favorite quote....maybe we do have a few things in common :D

Oh btw

:flipoff2: back at ya!

Obviously a joke, but to some, including me, I prefer a Toyota Land Cruiser, than a Lexus LX(number number number)

yeah and i had AHC way before any of the US spec LCs did, along with Projector headlights which are wayyyyyyy better then the crap reflectors in the LC.

:D

No argument from me on that...Right you are ! I think the 200 still has those lovely, antiquated reflectors.

Your right, these things don't really get used properly (if ever) until they're on owner 2-3. Hats off to Dtt in that respect for sure !

oh and i forgot, my warranty was better, service above par and if i needed any parts....i could still get them from toyota!

wow, what a poser pic! It is in reverse with the EMERGE brake on to activate the back-up camera...... ( that or a hack)

Well the fact is that I was so overexcited for a LC that I didn't think of that service area stuff.

I will tell you that if I have a bad experiance with the service area of Toyota...I will NOT be going to get another one. I would go to the lexus side.

The other issue, which I have NOT told you all yet is this. I work with my father and he has a lx470. There was no way I was going to park next to him and drive the same truck....that was just not going to happen.

So there was an extra issue that most people don't ever deal with!:rolleyes:

The service at the Toyota dealer is usually just fine. Hourly rate is ugly much like every other dealership, but the service is fine. Naturally, the service writer gets a percentage of what he/she writes-up so there's a dis-incentive for them to be honest with you.....but it's the same at the Lexus dealer...they f**k with a smile and offer you capaccino.....then call you the day after to insure your be-hymen was torn in a delicate fashion, and ask if your customer service experience was satifactory. Of course, you pay for that warm, fuzzy feeling....no such thing as a free lunch!

ahhhhhhhh i see, had to have the cooler newer truck huh? What will you do when he gets the LX570

nothing like a internet forum to try and make you feel bad about buying a Land Cruiser huh? ;)

Maybe the MSRP is simply more of tough sell to others than you. You know to some people the Aston Martin Vantage is the "budget" model... it's all perspective and personal.

LX570 is going to be priced in the mid-high $70K range and wouldn't be surprised if dealers mark them up to $85K...and to some owners, that will be a nice "3rd car for that trip I'm thinking of going on".

Despite being a Toyota, I think you will get slightly better service experience than a Corolla owner...
