Never seen a bare-metal like that. It looks like aluminum. Is it? If so...I wonder how strong it is.

Yes, it's aluminum. It's very strong, but it's not steel. It's more than strong enough for my needs and its a lot lighter that steel.

I found out something interesting at a recent tire class. The white lettering is actually a softer rubber compound that is extruded into the tire then cut off. Regardless of whether they’re on the inside or outside, keep this in mind in rocky areas, especially if aired down. On a trip several months ago, I cut the interior (white letter side) of both rear tires. I had aired down too far as it turns out. My Staun’s were not set correctly and I was stupid and didn’t check after airing down. Thankfully, on was cut badly enough to need replacement but didn’t lose air.

I just did new BFG's on my 200 and went white in.

On my 1997 T100 I always ran White out and truck is White. Most recent set of tires did not have white letter option. I am about 15K away from replacing the factory 2016 LC tires and if I have option of white out I will be taking it. I am looking to run NITTO Terra Grappler.
