wow - I'm just back home from a week's vacation and am not impressed with how a good story has deteriorated into such a mess...

For those that don’t know me, I’m the moderator of this forum and it looks like I picked a very poor time to be offline. It’s been a while since I’ve used the big red “censor” button, and I’d rather not use it now... There’re 3 main rules to follow in this forum:
  1. 1) Keep posts relevant to the Vancouver Island Land Cruiser community.
  2. 2) Keep the language family friendly.
  3. 3) Keep the conversations civil.

This thread contains language that is not family friendly; this is not acceptable and I will fix those posts immediately.

This thread contains personal insults and other rude posts – please, everyone who has posted to this thread, re-read your posts and consider “how” you tried to share your message, and how you might restate it more effectively and civilly. I’ll review this thread again Sunday evening and I will censor any posts I feel are objectionable.

I enjoyed and appreciated the effort that Andrew and Jason invested in trying to write up their trip report as a good story, and I hope they’ll continue with the remaining details. I’m disappointed that the story was hi-jacked with the concerns about environmental damage, but that is not something I won't meddle in as a moderator. How and where we choose to travel off road are important issues that we should talk about, and when they’re discussed in this forum it will be done civilly, using family friendly language.

If anyone wants to discuss my moderator decisions, please PM me your phone number and we’ll chat. Please, let’s not hi-jack this thread any further.

-Steve

Thanks Steve,

Unfortunately both Cam and I have lost all the necessary initiative to participate in this one anymore. Right about 09-01-11, 02:17 PM.

Sadly, we had a lot more story to tell, including shenanigans around the camp fire at Wells lake, gourmet firepit meals, video of us going down and back up and back down again on Falcon Hill, a video bit of the Richard Holding grave site, the Whipsaw cabin, a race against the clock heading back to the ferries, and more. I guess we'll have to chat about them in person at the next club meeting.

It is unfortunate that the initiative has been lost to tell the rest of this story. I have certainly enjoyed it thus far.

It is also important to discuss proper trail use, how to identify areas that are not trail so they can be avoided, etc....

BUT, the manner in which it was brought up is NOT conducive to a rational discussion rather it is purely inflamatory. I think some folks need to mind their manners!

Andrew & Cam,

Great write up so far, I hope you guys continue with the story or else the Terrorists have won........or in this case a certain hijacker.

It was a good read guys. Sorry that the thread went sideways. But here is some information that will put the tread gently rant on the Whipsaw in some perspective.

Treading sensitively on the Whipsaw will be a non-issue when the Lodestone mine gets going. I suggest that everyone enjoy the trail as long as you can, becuase it is not going to stay as it is for ever. This MINFILE MINFILE Mineral Inventory is a bit outdated. Sargold was bought out by Buffalo Gold a while ago. There was some more exploration work done up there about 2-3 years ago. But that is all these companies tend to do - exploration and sell. Eventually, a company will buy it and put it into production. If recent political announcements play out, mining will be getting a big hand from the current provincial government to open new mines. Even before these recent announcements, talk around Princeton is that there will be a mine going into production up there in the next 5-10 years.

It may suck to think we could loose the Whipsaw trail, but we also need to remember that we have benefited greatly from mining and forestry opening up trails for us to explore the outback of BC.

So yes, tread lightly as you can but realize that these trails were not made by people with hiking boots and backpacks.

Hijack out, now back to what Cam will get Jeff to do with his well aged hot-dogs and buns. ::eek:

Hey Cam, do you still want your hot dogs and buns from Whipsaw? Just found them in the back of my truck wedged under the seat....

LOL! Jeff.... Cam was LOOKING for those for some time! He was like, "Wtf happened to my dogs..." for some time, and then ate canned beans instead.

Ah yes, the good old hotdogs. I wonderd where they ended up. No worries Jeff, you can hold on to them, I hope you didnt discover them chasing a funky odor in the 80! :D

Oh and a little bird told me our buddy joined CC. I really must drop by a meeting one of these days. Cheers.

I was in the US last week and saw this strange bag of brainless junk food at a truck stop...:flipoff2:
