Looking to smoke test my manifold. A lil background. Had the head and manifold milled by a highly recommended shop Los Angeles. Carb rebuilt. Installed manifold for the second time and still coming up with leak some where. First round we used a gasket from cruiser outfitters, this round we used a Remflex. Looking to smoke test the engine before moving forward and wondering if any one on the forum can give some insight into the procedure for the 2f. Was simply going to use hose and a cigar.

How about this hillbilly approach? Start the truck, have a buddy hold a rag over the tailpipe as tight as he can, and you run your hand around the (still cold) exhaust manifold and feel/listen for leaks. You could also spray WD-40 at the seal junctions and watch for bubbling of the liquid.

There are YouTube videos on how to build your own smoke machine.

Sorry for the poop video but shove the smoke machine hose in the tailpipe with a rag. You'll need the low-pressure kind.

The cigar/hose doesn't work very well, particularly if you have an elusive leak.

If you look on YouTube there are a bunch of videos on how to make a cheap pressure smoke tester out of a large coffee can. You can also buy them on Amazon, ebay...

Thanks for the advice you two.

Interesting that you posted the vid with the j-pipe. I can still feel a slight flutter coming out of that connection even after a second j pipe and three oem gaskets. Unfortunately that’s not the main suspected leak. Good news is, everything come apart really easy at this point.
