Where to get a 3FE/A440F torque converter ?

My guy was replacing rear main seal in my 1992 FJ80 and found that the pin in the torque converter was broken off and looked like had been for a while. Instead of trying to reinstall, he is leaning toward just replacing the converter. Anyone know of a good source? Just thought I would help the search to possibly speed things up. He said my rear main seal was totally shot, so that should fix my leak, but want to put it back together right while it’s apart. Thx…

Can you confirm the exact model you're working on and manufacturing date: ie: FJ80L-GNPNEA ?
Original Torque convertor part number AFAIK should be: 32000-60031 but is discontinued.

How many miles on your transmission and were you having any issues with it?

Has the transmission, TC, or engine been removed/replaced previously?

Can you post up a few photos of the TC showing any/all markings (numbers/letters/colored marks and the welds, original welds will look clean) and a close up of the broken part?

A good condition low mileage original TC out of a known running/properly shifting FJ80 may be another option.


Your mechanic needs to check the rear crank for a wear groove ie: if there's a deep wear groove a new seal may not seal well.

Thanks. Will have to check all this. He has in a shop about 20 miles away. It has 262k miles and wasn’t having any real problems. It does shift a little hard downshifting sometimes. He was just replacing rear mail seal that was leaking terribly, and noticed the pin sheared off when he was inspecting everything. Thx for the info.

My mechanic called to say he ordered the one that Kernal had posted above. Said it was the only direct fit for my truck in the US that he and his partner could locate, so I guess that’s what I am getting. Glad they have good reputation.

Did you mention the hard downshifting to the mechanic and/or did he address that issue ie: before he stuffs the transmission
back into the vehicle. Any significant metal dust/particles in the pan?

He is going through all this.
