With y'alls input, I decided I need 4.88 gears for my son's '83 mini. I just put a 3" lift and 13.50/33x15 mud grapplers on it. It looks awesome, but definately needs to be regeared.
Where is the best place to order these from. I'm not looking for lockers yet, just to change the ratio. Thank you.

I bought 5.29's last summer from an ebay seller. They were Motive gears and he was the cheapest I found. I'll see if I can find the bill or box and get you his website.

Cool- thanks for the help so far.:)

Zuk uses Yukon gears. I have them in my truck and am fairly happy with them. Only criticism I have ever heard about them is that they are a little loud, and they are. But ive done some pretty gnarly stuff to them and they keep on truckin so I cant complain. If your son ever intends on bigger rubber than 33" go 5/29 definitely im still kickin myself in the head for going with 4/88 cus as nice as it is now im sure I could have lived with the 5/29s and I am definitely going to need to regear later down the line.

id go with:

1: motive gear
2: precision gear
3: yukon gear

...however most of the bigger brand names can and may be made from the same manufacturer. check the vendors list for good prices for forum members. i think JT's has a great full regear kit including both install kits for a decent price.

Yukon on the way. I have installed a lot of gears as well as sold a lot. I only use yukon because of seeing others fail. I haven't had an issue with yukon other than driver error (stupidity really).

Has anybody tried the Nitro gears and kits from www.justdifferentials.com?

I used Nitro gears in my Land Cruiser diff setup (4.88's, sourced from Cruiser Outfitters) and they installed very nicely. Reading through zuk's Gearinstalls.com web page really helped me get them setup quickly.

I go to YotaMasters. Not only do they have great new parts on the shelf, they have the used parts you need to finish the job. I the last time i ordered gears from them, they shipped me Nitro gears. I'm very happy with them.

Another interesting fact: every single differential shop I have called will only sell & install Sierra Gears. They claim that they have the lowest returns, plus they are the quietest gears.

I currently have Sierra's in the front & Nitro's in the rear. I can't tell the difference from driving the truck.
