Whats your favorite JEEP? (1 Viewer)

I assume the entire post is meant to be sarcastic?

I've owned a bunch of jeeps. My favorite was an 84 cj-7. The most reliable I had was a 92 cherokee with a straight six five speed. NEVER let me down and I beat the $hit out of it. I still see it tooling around town.

My least favorite was a 77 levi edition. Full time v-8. ALWAYS let me down (except for catching tail; very good for that).

The land cruiser is overbuilt for almost 95% of the general poser populous anyway (so are jeeps for that matter).

Nuff said by me.

I don't care what ya'll say, the only Jeep I ever liked was this one. I would have another one of these IF they were around in this country. My Dad used to have two of these diesels with steering column shifter, 4 speed manual. They run forever, just like cruisers.

wow that guy is an Idiot, i like how he trys to sound smart then even types in big letter so we will get scared. but any way back to the jeep question we have a YJ that lives out on our hunting property, i'de rather it be an LC but, for the money they payed for it and that fact that i wouldn't be ok with leaving any Yota out where bears could thrash on it and mice could live in it, so i guess a jeep is ok for that or for hauling mr. stupid big letter around in.

Don't worry about MJ, he has seen the light and has an 80 series. He is also a contributing member of the board now........

I just sold a Grand Wagoneer that had half the miles of my FJ62 and it felt like it had 200K more miles than the LC. I did have some fun beating on that POS in the woods!!

Always like the way the old Wagoneers looked...had a "go anyplace, beasty look" about them. I can tell you which one I hated the most....it was my sister's :censor:

88 Cherokee. Never ran right, which means my dad would have me come over to look at it and fix it, and she backed it into my Taco and then swore it wasnt her :doh:

...kinda funny how the black scuff/dent on the bed lined up perfectly to those super safety black plastic bumper end caps that revolutionized the Cherokee!

My first SUV was a 1991 Cherokee Laredo (XJ). I didn't know any better, and it was used 99.999% on pavement, so it's limitations were mostly unknown to me. I liked it and enjoyed it, but it was not reliable. The straight 6 was nice and revvy, but it went through several sets of brake rotors, three radiators, two alternators (among lots of other little annoying problems) and the rear seat back actually folded up like a taco one time and my two rear passengers found themselves lying on their back staring up at the headliner. It had many Renault components, a left over from when Jeep was owned by AMC/Renault, and we know how wonderful the French are at automotive engineering. All in all, it was appropriate for me at the time, based on what I needed, but I shudder at the thought of driving one today.

My father-in-law is a finance manager at a Dodge dealership and he sells lots of the Dodge Nitros, which remind me A LOT of the old Cherokees. I have NO IDEA about the expected reliability of these Daimer Chrysler "trucks", but with IFS, I don't expect it to be anything more than mall-rated, exactly what 98% of the market expects and wants. I do like the very boxy look of them though...

Comparing an FJ40 to a CJ7

So, keeping the emotion out of it, how did a CJ-7 compare to an FJ40 from the factory in the early 80's?

**Qualifier - I have an FJ40 and an early Bronco, and any board I am attached to hates Jeeps, but I am curious as to how they compared from the factory.

The biggest POS in my opinion is Land Rover - the owners actually brag about how unreliable the vehicles are.

Willys

"Willys Jeeps", it is pronounced ("Will-iss" or "Will-lus") But "Willies" pronounced ("Will-eez) is more common, although it is slang.

1954-83 CJ-5
1955-84 CJ-6
1976-86 CJ-7
1981-86 CJ-8

My personal favorites are the older Jeeps but anyone of these are decent building blocks. Willys Overland Motor Company also made some really nice looking cars.
