Do that, and take it to a detailer (or detail it yourself). I paid $5k for my first cruiser. Triple locked with 300k miles. It was detailed and polished.
This is huge. First impressions with looks are always worth the most (so long it functions properly). Whenever I sold a used car I had it professionally detailed and even bought new floor mats. It is amazing how much stock people will put in outward appearance.
@b16 - not really amazing really. You see a muscled up gymrat, you think protien powder & HGH, you see a hot gal....well, it's a "PG" site, you figure that one out.
Cars aren't much different, people that wax the heck out of a garage queen generally have a big house & big budget to fit.
An 80 like some here have - we can tell who feeds quality parts & labor to an 80, and often a guy who does a FAS is the guy who will run a vacuum in one & wash it somewhat regularly. He put a whole day into his axle, he probably wants his carpet somewhat clean. I know I do.
The one that need absolutely everything, is missing a mirror (sorry dude), smells like mold & is littered with old MacDonalds bags & cups is probably not going to be as serviced as the 8/10 LX450 coming from a wealthy suburb.
Time is money. Spending time and even minimal amounts of cash to spruce it up won't turn the odometer back or take care of major stuff that would concern me if I were a buyer.
If you are not in a hurry to sell then advertise it for what you want and adjust accordingly or offer it OBO. The market will determine what you get.
