What years are the 1FZ-FE motor exactly the same?

Might be picking up a spare engine for safe keeping and was wondering what years were they exactly the same? 1993 - 1994 or 1993-1998? I cannot seem to find the exact cutoff date..

How exact do you mean? There were differences in sensors between the years on the U.S. spec trucks. Not sure about overseas trucks. From what I've seen in person 96,97 had the same sensor array. 93-94-95 differ and are missing some machined bosses for ECU sensors that the later engines had.

1993 and 1994.
All OBD1. Same sensor setup.

There MAY be a VIN# cutoff when they went to OBDII, but I believe that ACTUALLY occurred in 1995.

1995-1997
1991-1992

You can drop any US 1FZ into your 93 but if it's an OBDII engine (~95-97) you'll need to use your original intake manifold and vacuum switch tray. There will be an extra sensor in the oilpan but you can just leave it there to seal up the hole and ignore it.

Putting a 93-94 OBDI engine into an OBDII chassis is a LOT more work, requiring you to add the tone ring to the crank and switch upper oilpans to add the sensor.

If my 94 and 95 are typical, then it was Jan95. My Nov 94 is OBDI and the Jan 95 is OBDII. Not that that's conclusive or anything.

You learn something new everyday.

I say pull both engines and compare side by side and swap over everything to the bare long block. Most of the confusion will clear up then..
