Unless you were playing the middle man they need to sort it out amongst themselves. Shame on your buddy for not doing anything about the parts he gave away a little sooner.
If it were me, giving the parts back w/o some sort of compensation/rental fees won't cut it because they are more "used" now than before and the value has dropped. Despite your well meaning intentions make a mental note not to go down this path again.

Have they met face-to-face? Might be worth it as it is easy to say "I'll get right on it". If the donor isn't willing to make that effort then I'd suggest he quit his belly-aching.
I think that the world keeps getting a little smaller. By that I mean that if I ever hear about someone that does this sort of sh**, I will not deal with them. I won't recommend them for side work, or give them the time of day. Much worse, I am more likely to say he is not to be trusted.
This community, or the 4 wheel community, is really small. I would just get on the boards and out the lazy looser and tell him to work it out quickly, because you hate being in the middle of this. We all know you and respect that you do the right thing.

On another subject... need to talk to you about the wifes exhaust and.. drum roll... I have been workin on the 68' finally.. Pics up soon. Been busy.

The guy you speak of is me...and and for those on the board that know me, I hope you know that I have no ill intention. Life has grabbed a hold of me in a major way and my abscence from this board serves as evidence. I don't offer it as an excuse. I honestly forget that I had the stuff.
I will return them ASAP!
