Its a 86 4runner hasnt been taged since 04 friend bought it replaced the 22re in it. motors got around 100k on it give or take a few
i helped him do the swap replaced timeing chain tuneup oilchange all that back in 04 or 05 when he bought it. It has the auto trans sitting on 32 10/50 tires no lift never been wheeled motor ran strong but beleve the kickdown cable on trans needs adjusted and valves need adjusted on the motor
so what would u all pay for that truck. Only rust is front and rear fender lips as seen in pics

motor had aorund 100k on it when we installed it . he put maybe 200 of his own miles on it and just parked it in the drive way . Ive been all over the truck no rust under it

The back registration will be the real killer... But there's a lot of question marks on a truck that hasn't been driven in 5-6 years...

Vehicles will break down whether you are driving them or not...

I'm pretty cheap personally, but I think it's worth $500-$1000. I'd probably try to get it for closer to 500 though...

Every seal will leak, and any brake part that touches brake fluid will likely be rusted and ruined.

One of the worst things you can do to a vehicle is not drive it.

Here in md there no back registraion fees. He's gone out and started it things like that . I no he payed 950 for the truck 750 for the motor. I new the guy all my life best friends since kindergarden. - figured I b doing a 5 speed swap. Tires use to b mine swaped them for his old baldys when I junked a difrent vehicle. Re"y u guys wouldn't offer no more then a grand for it?

I agree with what everyone else says, $500-700 as it sits, but if it drives and stops decent and would not take much to get back on the road, maybe $1000. Just because he is a close friend, doesn't mean that you should pay more for it than it is worth. When I sell stuff to friends it is always heavily discounted or free. Look at what you are going to have to put into it to make it what you want or at the minimum drivable and factor that into your offer.

just to give you an idea,i only paid $1800 for a no rust anywhere, perfect body, automatic, stroker 2.7 powered 1986 4runner with only 155k total miles and a little over 40k miles on the motor.so i agree with above $500-750 max.

What you have there is a decent looking large pile of work. It may not cost much to get it into driving shape, but you can't trust anything on it to be fine, you're going to have to make sure it's fine, and that means taking it apart usually...

Go look at my Green Bastard thread. It had sat for 4-5 years, although it was in rougher shape when parked, but before I ever tried to drive it more than around my property I rebuilt the front axle, pulled the rear axle apart completely and made sure it was ok. Rebuilt the brake calipers, and changed the pads and shoes, and put a good used master cylinder on it. I also had the trans and T-case out of it... You can't trust it as it sits now. That's the bottom line.

good to see back on board...........I agree with the sitting and price part I also know in your area its going to be hard to find a trusty worthy and rust free rig.

Its really all based on what you are willing to do or are able to do work wise. What is equally important do you have another dd to drive in the mean time.

I will tell you this.........parts are by far much cheaper than it was on your old 62;)

if ya buy it............and if you can get it to me you know how to find me:beer:

i started my own buissness and right now all i got is the full size chevy work truck i drive everyday . Repairing stuff on the truck aint a problem. only thing i never did on my old cruiser was the birfields or a gearchange swap. So u all are saying ima most likely have to replace the brake hardware and maybe shocks. whats the deal on the auto trannys? Ive always herd there weak ducks. How hard is it to swap it over to a manual? guessing ide need clutch peddal assembly trans transfercase are ther driveshafts difrent on the auto and manual. The asking price my friend is asking is $1500 he payed 8 or 900 for the truck and i think it was 750 for the motor. Grew up with him since grade school. IF i had any doubts bout the motor i wouldnt even b intrested. He was able to powerbrake them 32 11/50s on it i couldnt beleve it. with stock auto gears in the axle and 5 speed in it whats largest tire it can handle and still drive down the highway and wheel with ? Should i just stay with 32s or could ity handle 33s without snaping the front axles

We aren't saying you'll have to replace everything, we're saying, you can't trust any of it, so you'll have to take it all apart and verify that it's in good shape. Your life is not worth not doing it right.

It probably has 4.56 or 4.30 gears, and those are probably good in a stock ratio to about 32" tires with a 5 speed. But it's all about how much missmatch you're willing to drive with... I drove my 33's with 4.10's for 4 years... Wasn't awful...

you would have front cv joints and they could handle 33's just fine.

brakes are cheap my man. If you need any help....pm me.

If you can get rid of the auto but drive it first hell ya never know it may be ok......you never know with this old ducks

i no he wants 1500 for it i think im gonna go lay ten crisp 100 dollar bills in front him and say yes or no! paydays the 15th never no i may be rolling in a 4runner . cant beleve ima get a two door ewwwwwww

Well? Looks like a nice rig. I agree you need to see how well it drives, and more importantly, how well it stops. Assuming it has a solid frame and body, $1K is reasonable. There is a LOT to be said for a rust-free rig. As for the 5spd swap, I know the pedal assembly unbolts as a unit from a truck originally equipped with a 5 speed (meaning the brake and clutch pedals are a package deal), so you probably can just unbolt your stuff and bolt in a pedal assembly from a 5 speed ... "Probably" being the key. Then again, I thought you'd be able to bolt in the windshield wiper delay switch into a column that originally did not come with wiper delay. Wrong! So maybe it's best to park the auto rig next to a stick rig and compare.

sometimes it is much worse for a vehicle to sit than be driven.

if it were a year older with a solid axle, I have never seen one out west for less than $2K.

That being said there are a few '86 and '88 4 runners going for $1200 around here.

i would say $1200, because you are likely going to have an $800 tune up on your hands. but you also know the condition of the project (KEY!)

the bonus of the automatic is the stock 4.88 gears (think i read that tonight), which would explain the brakestand on 32" tires.

that being said, I paid $2000 for a '80 Hilux 9 years ago, and $2200 for an '84 Hilux 7 years ago...you do the math...
