I know nothing about chevies so maybe someone can give me a clue.

I've got a '93 Chevy 1500 SWB 4x4 with the Z71 package. Anyone know what transmission this has behind it?

It's a 350 engine, with what looks like TBI, and an auto.

So is it a TH350 or 700R4 or the 4L60E or 4L80E (those are the later electronic versions of the former two, correct?)?

For that matter, what Transfer case would it have?

700R4 or 4l60E

I believe it shoudl be the 4l60E

Thanks Mace

Anyway to know for sure? ID plate, VIN or such?

Is everything the same between the 700 and the 4l60E except for the electronic part?

You should have the 4L60E. The 4L60E is an electronically controlled 700R4. It replaced the 700 a few years before your truck was built (89-ish?). Gearset is the same. The 4L80E is the electronic version of the TH-400, but with overdrive. It uses a standalone ECU. The TH-350 is a 3-speed and does not have a "late model " counterpart.

My truck has an OD position on the column, I haven't looked at it recently but I believe it goes: P R N OD D 2 1.

Still a 4l60e?

Yes, the TH700-r4, 4L60E, and 4L80E are all 3-speed + overdrive final gear transmissions.

The TH350 and TH400's are 3 speeds with 1:1 (non-overdrive) final ratios.

I agree it should be the 4L60E.
To make sure, you can look at the options sticker inside your glove box and see if MD8 (IFIRC) is on there somewhere. It is also cast into the side of the bellhousing part of the tranny.

Thanks Mace

Take a good look at the pan and bolt pattern on your trans.. then Google "how to Identify Chevy transmissions" it will give you I dont know how many sites that have pics of the pans and bolt patterns so you can be sure of what trans you got..

Well, I was wrong:whoops: After consulting my GM options guide, I found that the 4L60E is designated as option "M30" (MD8 is the 700R4)
Sorry for any confusion, and the delay was due to a computer failure. Right now I'm running on a temporary replacement while our regular PC is in the shop.
