I bought this FJ55 as I always wanted one. I found it locally.

Here is the pro's: SOA, Saginaw, 350 Fuel injected, 700R4
Here is the con's: Rusty rockers, front and rear fenders, and surface rust in floors.

Anyone care to share what kind of $$ fixing the rust will cost? I wanted to do the lance IPOR rocker solution. The floors are still fixable. I was also leaning towards using full width Dana 60 front, and corp 14 rear with a NP205 to finish the running gear in all chevy (this will cost me $1000 locally). I already have the front bumper/8274 to bolt up.

I am trying to determine what kind of cash it will take to finish this piggy but I am mostly concerned about the rust.

Sorry to break it to you man. It's a total loss.

I'll give you $20 for it. :flipoff2:

i think you are right :crybaby: but I'll give ya $50 :flipoff2:

Are you planning on doing any of the body work yourself or farm it out? It all depends on what you want as a finished product. Do you want something you can wheel the snot out of and not worry about the paint? If so..... $1,500 +/- should cover it. If you want it nicely done and to stay rust free, at least for awhile then $3,000 +/-. HTH, of course these are rough estimates.

trail truck - chop out rust, phosphoric acid it, if you can get a friend with a welder have him weld in some crappy patch panels, rattle can it white, then wheel the piss out of it, put some rocker protection under the doors so they will close later on, :)

restoration - get your checkbook out or find a 2nd and 3rd job.

Without seeing it in person, the body is about in the same shape as mine was when I started in Feb. Maybe a bit better. Mine looked prettier because of the shiney Maaco paint job, but it held a vast array of bondo and rust under that ruby exterior. But we do have the same blingy wheels. :)

So...I'd say for the body work (on the truck - not frame off) at least $3K. And that's with you stripping it yourself and then putting it all back together. At least that's what I am bumping up against.

Aaron, it depends what you will do yourself. Bodywork does not come cheaply in Canada/USA. Check out my piggy's before and after pics in this months POTM. I guarantee you that mine was NOT economically repairable if I farmed it out, yours is likely the same. I did it because I wanted the experience and the parts cost was essentially nil. Of course eventually I had to put some funds into it but in the grand scheme of things it was not too bad.

Professional work to fix the body, $3000 is low in my opinion!

update

Thanks for the replies guys.

It came with from the PO with Super Swampers TSL's 80% tread on centerline wheels 35 12.5 15. But it has drum brakes now. I have a set of FJ60 axles sitting around the shop. I keep getting the run around on the Dana 60 pursuits locally so this may not materialize. It is SOA but has some steep angles at the transfer case to the driveshaft.

Rust issues- I am leaning towards what many of you have suggested and trying to DIY with sliders and patch panels.

Thanks again

Aaron
