IBTL.

How would having a F250 steerer relate to a 79-95 Toyota 4wd?

Man, I wonder if this is spam like a lot of other posts lately.

What have I done? Woaaah!

Holy! I was about to post this in ford-forum.. Sorry mates. It was a shame..
You see I have a F250 and a 91 4runner.. (and so i got this issue with my F250)..
Okay just so to make this thread relevant, a week ago i noticed a squeaking and leaking power steering (with my 91 4runner this time)..
The leaking is near front.. is it in the box or in the pump?

urrgh thanks mates!

again, it was a shame.

we can't diagnose the issue from afar, like 2ndGen said, look at both for leaks, if that isn't it, get the front wheels off the ground with jack-stands at the cab, and idle your motor to see if your wheels turn on their own. If this is happens, its time for a steering gearbox rebuild.

Sorry for the initial skepticism

Squeeking can mean low fluid, which would make sense if you're leaking... I'd check the steering box first if you're leaking at the very front of the truck... however the pump and box are not that far apart...

I decided to have it checked with my dealer. it looks like both the pump and the box are making the issue..

yes. we did exactly what you said chuck.. we had to replace the gearbox too.. So far its doing fine.. but i doubt this wont happen again.. that 4runner is a bit old..

Anyway, thanks! mates..

It happens with age and wear. I'd definitely check to see if your steering stabilizer's in good form too, if it's shot, it can add excessive wear to the GB.

Glad we didn't have to delete this thread on you!

By the way, for what it's worth, the steering gearbox in your F250 and your 4Runner are both manufactured by Toyoda Automatic Loom, Toyota's parent company, so posting here wasn't far off for either.

**Never run Power Steering Fluid in Toyotas**

Just so you know, Toyota's use ATF instead..most times an annual changing of the fluid if the vehicle see's a lot of use is not unheard of. Basically I just "cycle out" our fluid. Start the rig up and get everything warmed up, then turn it off. Grab a turkey baster or clear siphon line and drain a bunch of the old stuff out. Refill and start the rig up, turn the wheels lock to lock a few times and turn it off. Repeat the process until the fluid comes as clean as possible.

**Harder way is to disconnect the low pressure side and add a tap/splice and line to both connections with the bad going into one 5 gallon bucket and the pickup coming from a good bucket. Start the truck and run it until the bad fluid's gone. Keep the fill cap on and don't cycle the wheel too hard or it'll make a nice firehose mess all over your workspace.

See, now. We all figured out you are not some odd spammer and will happily contribute back. :steer::cheers:

p.s. Let's see a nice resolution picture of your 4Runner. :D
