I am looking for the lower front speakers. The foam surrounds on mine are shot and I'd rather just replace the speaker than fix the foam. If you have a pair laying around, I'd be interested. Thanks,

What do people normally do with the medium sized (3-4") speaker in the middle of the door panel when they upgrade the woofer/tweeter?

Thanks,
Brandon

Run new wire and bypass them. A new component set is going to sound better than the factory setup anyway...

Not sure of the size. That is one reason I want the factor speakers, so it is plug and play. Just don't any time to fool with it.

The 6.5" will fit. You might have depth issues where you need to use part of the original mount attached to the factory speaker to act as a spacer... Just thought I would mention that even though that's not what your wanting. It seems most folks only replace when they're bad, so a good used pair might be hard to come by. You can get the originals on amazon for $230 a pair...I would never recommend anyone ever actually do that, but again just thought I would throw it out there...

Ok. Well, then, maybe I should re-foam them. Anyone know what size kit to order? Thanks,
I know there's one or two people who have completed this. You would have to search for it, and honestly I can't remember if they listed the size they ordered.

Personally I don't know why anyone would waste the time to do this on the stock speakers. The time required per speaker simply doesn't warrant their "performance" in my honest opinion! You can easily retro fit some aftermarket component surrounds in the front or coaxials in 5.25" or 6.5" and then a matching set in the rear door - Probably installed in the same time it took you to re-foam one stock speaker.

Much better options for your time and effort and the return you will get than trying to refresh the stock speakers. Options should be available from $50.00 to more than you would think you could spend on a set of speakers.

I hear people bash the Mark Levinson sound system and it is usually someone that has ripped it out and spent a lot of money to replace it. Given the age that all of our LX470s are reaching, I wonder how many of these same people ever had the opportunity to hear the system when all the speakers were performing at their best, meaning no broken surrounds.... Sitting around drinking bear and spending 10 to 15 minutes to cut out a foam surround and replacing it with a new one that cost $10-15 to make a speaker work like new again doesn't seem like a bad decision to me. Especially when that speaker would cost $370 or more from Lexus. I replaced the foam surround in my Mark Levinson subwoofer and I plan to do the same for all of my other speakers over the summer.

Not to be argumentative, but I have. I've sat in my inlaws 2006 LX with system in perfect working order. Sounds fine at low to moderate levels, as most factory systems do. Front drivers are a bit, soft, for lack of a better term. They are a low power, high efficiency driver that will reproduce stuff in the lower range decently at low to moderate volumes. Higher volumes they quickly become muddy, not talking distorted ...but unable to recover from one one note before being asked to produce the next because of their loose suspension. Highs are a bit on the harsh side for my taste. Overall, it sounds fine...at low to moderate volumes. But judging from the amp, it's probably a 50W total RMS system...it's just really nothing special.

A set of $100 components with a good 50-75W to them alone, some $50 coaxials for rear fill off the deck and a real subwoofer will blow it away at any volume level. Not saying that's what you need or that fixing the surrounds on yours isn't the perfect fix for you, but just be aware that Mark Levinson name is just that...a name. My Dodge Durango factory Bose system also paled in comparison to a budget aftermarket system...Anyway, carry on. To each his own...

Don't disagree with any of this. I am just looking for the fastest fix in which I only have to take apart one door. I'm getting old and now only occasionally crank it to sign along.

I havent looked into this but I have had good luck using crutchfield.com for fitment stuff. They are typically a bit more expensive than alternate vendors but they generally have good information regarding what replacement parts fit.

I realize you are asking about the speaker size but I just did the replacement foam surround on the stock speaker using the kit from Simply Speakers. I just followed the door removal step by step in the FAQ section and did both front doors. Took about an hour on a nice sunny day. Easy peazy! So far, I've done the woofer & the front doors. Wonder if the back doors need it? lol....
