What leaf springs?

I've got two friends that run the Humvee rims (they are the ones who scored me the deal on them) with full width D60's. They ended up using 1 1/4" spacers to clear the hi-steer arms. Here's a pic of how close they are.

They are however linked up with coils...so it is a different way of doing it.

It would be easier just to run front spacers than narrow the axle and recenter all the rims...but then I'm stuck with doing a link setup in the front (which I'm not excited about).

If you get the right hy steer arms you will not have to recenter...

linking the front is actually pretty easy...

why don't you just start with a one ton chevy or some s***. I don't get the point of using a landcruiser frame when you'll probably just end up useing about two feet of it. plus carnage and getting stuck is half the fun so have fun riding everywhere and never having to leave your rig (except for maybe locking your hubs). Why don't you throw in some dvd players and airconditioning for the best in comfort,

maybe the same reason you didn't leave the Cummins 4BT in the stock vehicle??

crap, i did pull the rear numbers, then it just went downhill from there.

use the longest spring possible, with the center pin placement that is desired.

bds 4" lift spring front is listed as 44.5 22.875 22.875 6 leaf

I am going to run FJ60/62 rear springs for my front and rear with the one extra FJ40 main leaf spring cut down and added in the front.. they are about 46 inches eye to eye off the truck and pressed flat they are about 49 inches eye to eye. short side is like 22 and lont side is 24. I also added 2 inches to the front frame horns and cut the rearcross member out and will position accordingly to get about 100 inch wheel base. The springs were kind of hard to come by but i got both sets for free so i figure why not?

don't get excited...it's a short fence, and Mace tripped...

:flipoff2:

No kidding, the top of the thread I saw:

I've got a set of Humvee BL's and plan on running 36" Irok's.

Propane.

And thought this WAS Mace. He just gets excited when he see's someone else using the BBQ juice.

Hey guys, I'm new to the site. I bought a 77 FJ40 tub and I'm doing a frame up build. I'm in the process of collecting parts right now and hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction. I'll give a little insight as to where I'm heading with this:

Using a stock frame.

Drivetrain is going to be a SBC, TH400, NP205 (twin sticked) GM D60 front, 14B rear.

I've got a set of Humvee BL's and plan on running 36" Irok's.

Propane. ;)

I've got most of the parts (still hunting for late model windshield, hood...doors.

My first (and not last!) question is spring choice. I've read quite a bit of material, but I've heard so many different opinions I'd figure I'd finally sign up on a LC site (I found this one from a link on PBB).

I'm looking to stretch out the wheelbase as much as possible with the stock frame and I know spring choice is going to play a roll in that. Would you guys use 63" chevy's front and rear? Something different?

Thanks in advance and I'll keep you guys updated with the progress. I'm over on www.timbercrawler.com mostly (since I'm a moderater there) so you can follow along the buildup there too.

For now....here's a pic of how it's all starting. Yup...it's a uncut tub (for now  )

I'm running custom AOR fj-55 springs in the front and for the rear I'm currently playing with some heep cherokee springs. If I remember right the springs are about 59" from eye to eye. My current WB is 103" and the bottom of my t-case is 22" from the ground (tires fully aired up though) and I've got plenty of up travel in the front and rear wheel wells to run 39.5" tires...I'm currently on 36"TSL's though.
I'm somewhat technology challenged so I only have a few pics of the cruiser and in these pics it was not finished...but it will give you an idea...
By the way I was running stock fj40 springs and I had flipped both front and rear springs, I put some reeeeally long shocks on the rear and installed a set of revolvers and was very happy with the setup...yes the revolvers have 1 minor draw back in my opinion but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a simple unload strap/?? MY setup is a little different in that I'm running cruiser axles so its a little lighter but then again I'm still running the F motor an sm-465+203+LC3spd.

Good LUck either way its always fun building it up nothing wrong with trying something different...

By the way the first pic is a totally stock SOA in the front even the stock shackles and the rear has the revolvers on it. As you can see the front was just a little to stiff and hard on the the frame. All of the weight is being distributed to the two front tires and the passenger rear leaving the droop on the driverside rear suspension to be determined by the body roll and weight on the rear axle/tire. In this case a heavier axle would only bennefit. Then again I could be totally off here but this was just some thoughts based on my on personal observations. I've never owned a vehicle that was 4-Linked equiped so maybe thats the ticket...but for simplicity, cost, and In my opinion "reliability" springs seem like they would suite your needs fine. Theres some really impressive pics of some mini's that are running spring/shackle setups and producting some drool worthy RTI scores...just another thought to haunt you and make your desicion harder ;)
