I've been using these 3 ton jack stands from Amazon with no issue.. but after reading this thread I'm wondering if I should get a stronger pair of stands.

I don't know how you feel, but when I went from 3 ton stands to 6 ton, it made me feel A LOT safer. The 3 ton always felt small under the 100. The 6 ton feels beefy and I don't worry at all now (although I still am careful and use backup safety most of the time).

I use 22-ton stands similar to those linked below. Hope I never have to get under a vehicle supported by 3-ton stands again.

For jacks, I have an old 2.5-ton SnapOn (Lincoln) that I rebuilt, and a 2-ton Hein Werner. There are a few things that the 2-ton just doesn't go high enough for (max height is 20.5"); the bigger jack goes to 23.5" which works well.

I just bought these after seeing a few people recommend them. Amazon product ASIN B074R17GL4 They work as well as a jack stand can, they have a safety pin and I'm alive and well and if you use 4 then 12 tons is 24,000 pounds which is more than enough . I think chocking your wheels and leave as many wheels on as you can is probably the number 1 life saver honestly. If I had to guess it's the jack stand falling over due to vehicle movement or use on an incline that probably gets people. I also always throw a tire (that's off the truck) under the size for the frame to land on should it fall with me near it.

Also note that they go to 23.5 inches which is nice. The 3 ton jack stands aren't going to be tall in enough in a few situations and then you're gonna be shopping for something taller which ends up being stronger.

Also worth nothing except for a few exceptions it seems 80% are made by the same factory to the same specs and painted differently. You’ll have a hard time telling the majority of them apart. The tractor supply ones look just like the oreilly auto ones and the Amazon ones.

I'm amazed to see that those 22T yellow jacks up there don't have any retainer feature on the main pin. Like not even a cotter pin...? Not so much that they would slip under load but possibly unnoticed while setting them up. I'd try to drill a hole at the end of the pin and see if that can be done easily enough.

The pins are massive -- you'll be drilling for a while -- and I generally discourage people from modifying safety equipment. :)

Seriously, it's easy to slide the pin into position and have it be centered. I can't imagine it being a problem in use (I have four of those stands). And I would much rather use this style of jack than the ratchet mechanism type of stand.

Looks like your name is Jack so I can’t argue it.

I use these also. Really like them, however any time I am under the rig I leave the floor jack in place after lowering it onto jack stands and I also slide the bottle jack under there with the @LandCruiserPhil adapter. Also throw the tire under. But I am so paranoid about this stuff.
