Hello all, newbie her so forgive if I'm in the wrong place for this question. I have always loved these trucks and finally found one I could afford. Cash price is $2000, claims 164k original miles, everything operational/original except for radio. 5 speed, 22R, No a/c, needs tires, has rust on bottom of both fenders and couple spots on the bed. I like these trucks but don't want to fall in love a overpay. Any idea on the value or what you would be willing to pay. I am going to try and post a picture if I am able to do that here. Thank you for any thoughts, appreciate it.

Are you hooked on the 1st Gen body style, or on one of those butt ugly kingcab conversions specifically??? That's some after market conversion, and they probably they stretched the frame etc... That long of a wheel base defeats the point of having a 4wd for wheeling...

Actually those are pretty common at least on the west coast just search "toyota truck custom cab" I think a company called Fabco made them from the late 70s to mid 80s, I don't know about that particular one but I have seen some nice ones out there for sure.

There are a couple around here in Santa Rosa, they're pretty horrific looking.
I say run away, fast. Those things are notorious for rot right at the joints between the fiberglass extension and the body. Not to mention first gens are rust magnets to begin with.

2K for a regular first-gen is a little high, if it's not been run in a while, and is in that shape, maybe 1200. chances are high the only way it's getting home is on a flatbed.

Is that truck in northern New Mexico?

I don't really care for the look either but you have to admit they are part of the Toyota truck history in the US having been sold as an option at the dealerships. They did give the ability to hold 5 passengers in a Toyota truck and still have a usable bed. To each his own. If cruzit likes I think he should at least check it out.

Ugly, but some people like them. I think its a ridiculous option.

not to mention it has a 22r... that thing probably puts like 30 horse to the wheels... :P

If you want that type of truck, I can certainly respect that. I can see how it would be darned cool to have that many seats, I know if I was looking at a Tacoma I would probably go for a double-cab.

My point is THAT truck is a rust heap. You couldn't give me that thing.

If your going to buy it to wheel, then I would say no. It would just be to long.
I had a 86 22ret and used it for camping, fishing, etc. I also have 7 kids. The bigger ones would sit in the back. I also put a 60/40 bench in the front to seat a total of 6 in the cab. Alot of people told me that the truck is ugly, I say it's bad ass. I grew up TOYOTA and like every model. Not to mention, I was the only guy in Hawaii to have that model. Hawaii is a TOYOTA state. Just my 2¢

I appreciate all you honest opinions and thoughts. I did pass on the truck. But will keep on the lookout for another custom cab in better shape. Thank you guys.

I've always thought the custom cabs were badass, but on the 2nd gen platform. I love 1st gen style but in my opinion the custom cab looks better on a more squared body.

2k is definitely too much though. If the truck spent it's whole life in Colorado it's probably more rust than metal.
