What is the lowest profile roof rack option?

Has anyone thought about plastidiping their roof rack? I was thinking it might be a good idea just to keep stuff less likely to slide around.

I'm not sure Plasti-Dip would be a good idea for coating a surface that frequently has items mounted on it. I bet things like firewood would tear it up in no time. Imagine spraying a low strength adhesive on a surface and then placing latex glove material over it. Any load that shifts a small amount due to vehicle vibration would eat right through it in no time. This is why I would never do off road wheels in Plasti-Dip.

I would however, spray it over rack-to-mount hardware. I bet it would keep your bolts looking new indefinitely.

Hey guys, I'm bumping an old thread. Some of you may have heard of the roof racks from Prinsu Design. I have their original 80 series rack on my 80 and love it! IMO it's the best rack on the market. All aluminum (super lightweight) and very strong. I know they recently finished the design for the 200 series and should have a 100 series rack available soon. Not affiliated, just extremely satisfied and letting you know about another low profile rack option out there.

Man, your 80 is killer.

Love the look of these racks, hope they do make one for the 100...

All kidding aside, good looking rack, like the design but would be a little concerned with Sind noise at the gap between the deflector and the roof without some sort of rubber stripping

I think he was j/k as wrote. No offense appears intended.

That is a very sweet rack and you have a very nicely outfitted rig.

Merry Christmas!

If someone wants my slimline 2 I'll make them a deal - I f**king hate it.
Wow there's a stellar review. Why?
Just curious.

Roll your eyes all you want pal. Just because he used photos of my truck doesn't make me a part of his business. My rack was the first one for the 80 series so those photos were the only ones that showed a rack on an 80. I'm not getting a kickback or some other perk. Just happy with the rack and I have no problem helping out a stand up guy that makes a great product.

As for wind noise, there is no discernible noise whatsoever from my rack. There is a thread in the 80 section with a number of people running the racks now. Feel free to go see what others are saying if you're skeptical of me.
Wow, did you read my whole post? Everyone is so tightly wound these days it's off putting. I said it was good looking. I don't give a rat's ass if you stand to gain from it or not - that said, it does seem a little suspect that a 3 year old thread is dug up for a shameless plug for a product that features your truck on the site - and it's clear from looking at your rig that you aren't shy about promoting other brands too for one reason or another - probably quid pro quo. But I don't know so that's just an assumption.

If they had a 100 that was similar in design to the 80 and 200 (not sure why they'd jump to 200 with many more 100 MUD'ers out there doing trail rigs with their TLCs - other than the fact that tepuitent.com is featured on both your 80 and the 200 they built a rack for, hmmm another coincidence I suppose) I probably would have bought it over the BajaRack UTility rack.

Anyway, enjoy your free rack. Good looking rig you have, save for the billboards.

all good here. sorry for the skepticism, and thanks for the explanation.

Dissent doesn't have a rack....so no different than Prinsu.

Prinsu rack my guess will be about the same cost as 200 rack.

Box Rocket thanks for the update that the design is getting closer to production.

Also everyone discusses what they use but I don't see all the other items people mention being MUD vendors. Insert any oil, tire, suspension, phone, CB, CD player......ect.

Back to roof racks.
Current gen FR Slimline, I like it as it is tall enough to fit the FR table underneath it...muy cool use of space.
I prefer the older version we have on our 80 (welded as opposed to bolt together) but this one is super solid, blue Loctite and a torque wrench will hopefully prevent any issues.

I'm pleased with my K9 rack from Equipt1. I would consider it 'low profile', pretty sure it sits lower than Gamiviti's.
The K9 rack is a solid piece of kit, well built and strong. I have the under mount for the large table that works nicely. It gives me comfort to know that it's aluminum under the paint and won't rust when abused. I've hauled quite a bit of load up there. Recently stacked all 5 of my mounted 295/75 tires up there and walked around them to strap them in, not even a hint of give from the rack. Mounting accessories is easy and well designed. Currently have side camp lights, rear lights, shovel mount, and awning... no rattling and no noticeable wind noise over stock.

I have a Baja Utility rack on my built FJC, price was right and strength is good, but attaching accessories is less than ideal.... and I'm constantly touching up the paint and dealing with rust spots.

Obligatory photos:

I'm pretty happy with my Gamiviti. Here's a pic for comparison to other racks posted. It sits about the same height as the factory rack if not slightly lower.
