What is normal rust, what do you do about it?

Most of the classifieds describe normal rust area's, is it common? Neglect?
They normally follow up by saying ...... It's easily repairable ......( It's not. )
I would HIGHLY recommend a personal inspection or at a minimum, detailed photos.

If your talking about a 70 Series ...... Rocker areas, rear window and windshield frames, wheel arches, door bottoms and of course the frame. Those coming from up north were probably subjected to snow and salt.

I live on the Georgia / Florida line. ( S.W. Georgia )

I'm on the Florida side near U.S. 17, south of Kingsland. We have 2 liquor stores, but everything else we go to Georgia for.

I'm about 30 miles N.E. of Tallahassee in Thomasville, Ga.

Let me know the next time you head this way especially if you are driving a 70 Series. :)

Can any of these rust areas be delayed or kept at bay with products like Waxoyl or POR-15? Not a cure but buying for a good amount of time?

I'd think window frame areas might be bad news with rot hiding under rubber seals.

The shop I use in a Thomasville is very familiar with POR-15. Perhaps you guys should talk.
Send me a P.M. if you need more information.

Yes/no/maybe. Depends on many things like climate ,how bad it was before you treated it and your vigilance.

Rust converters are chemicals that change the rust (iron oxide) into something different that won't continue to eat your car.
The actual chemicals vary in each product. Depending on how well it creeps, flows, covers, etc, it might stop the problem, but usually some rust survives and/or it comes back nearby.

Waxoyl is a oily, waxy product that coats the rust sealing out the oxygen that permits new rust formation. Blocks water which encourages the rust.
I used to have a recipe for making your own waxoyl from paraffin wax and some other stuff from the hardware store.....
