It needs to be replaced or it will be a nightmare to remove. I wouldn’t wait the full 10.

Yup, the longer you wait, the harder it's to remove it. Plus it yellows...
This pretty much describes mine as well. I’m really hoping for the best here because I don’t wanna mess with anything that looks like “a psycho girlfriend had attacked it with a knife.”
My hood PPF (port installed) was exactly 10 years old when I peeled it off. It was yellowed and cracking and resulted in about 400,000 little flakes.
I think it was 3M film.

I had a local guy install my Xpel film, this the thicker self healing stuff they have but idk if that makes any difference or not.
I’m somewhat torn because I do enjoy a nice clean scratch free vehicle but I expected the film to come off in a similar fashion as it went on… big sections at a time.
It’s funny because I do have some trip damage, some hail dings from Wyoming and a gash on the hood from a rock that fell on it while on a trail and those are like a trip trophy but scratches and lamely earned dings really bug me. Maybe once the truck is a little older I’ll be past that but I don’t think so. I’ve obsessed over this stuff on all my vehicles and I’ve had some real sh*t boxes.
oh it's definitely yellow...you just can't tell yet. it's ineviteble with these films.
there was some recent controversy with xpel about film yellowing but it's not just a xpel thing. it's a clear film thing.
Looks incredible; mind if I ask ballpark range for what this would cost? Lot of lower mileage LX570s out there that and this could be a worthwhile solution for some of us who can't can get past the Lexus' predator front end. Couple with the Mark Levinson and there's something here.

meh...I'm not going to argue other than to say I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to my cars' paint and make it a habit to give it a thorough inspection when it's grooming day at the zoo and (un)fortunately often see new imperfections/marks/etc. Moreover there's a 10 year warranty against yellowing with XPEL that they do NOT want to have to pay out on I am sure (having to cover both the material and warranty). Yellowing definitely was a problem with earlier iterations of the PPF and may still be so with other brands, but best I can tell XPEL is not one of them. HTH
I literally just removed 3 year old XPEL film and there was some yellowing.
It looked clear to me when it was on the car but you can only see it when the film is off the car.
What'd your installer say when you showed them?
well yellowing won't matter since debris landed on my hood and fked it up....so i am gonna have to pay to replace it anyway...
i've had xpel (including their tint) on 10+ cars now...and i keep using them because i like my installer. he does the work for Porsche and other luxury car brands in Houston..
but i am not going to sit here and say xpel is the best or it doesn't yellow.
xpel is good at marketing.
Got the Hamilton CarPlay kit installed....my 200 now has everything it should have had from the factory! Huge improvement!

@HighRanch , did u do the install yourself or had it done. Doesn't look like rocket science but it does involved dismantling a crap load of stuff

Did it myself...was not difficult if you watch the YouTube video and have the customer support number on the ready!
