What do you think about this rig?

I have considered purchasing this vehicle and have been in contact with the seller (even chatted on the phone).

Should I be asking for additional pictures, if so which areas of the rig???

Let me know what you guys think!

TIA!!

The fact that is has a/c, factory tach and clock would be bonus points on my book.

Ask for close ups of the back quarter panels below the rear doors. What's has asking for it? That will be the biggest factor.

Steering wheel is on the wrong side :D. Those blisters in the paint could be the tip of the iceberg. It looks very straight and clean, but the rust could be extensive.
:D I can get over the steering wheel being on the right (correct) side. :hillbilly:

Yeah, the blister thingies do make me feel a bit uneasy!

Thanks for spotting those.
I'm trying to verify that they do indeed work, or not!

I've also asked for pics of that area now as well.

And he is asking $5k(US), plus ride from OZ.

This just came to me, but would it make more sense to consider something that was already in the US, possibly even LHD, such as Bull's, even if red's not my favorite color? :hillbilly:

Just thinking out loud, I guess... :flipoff2:

$5k seems about right for a vehicle that's still down there. i paid more than that for mine and it's not in much better shape than this one. it'll cost you about $2500-3000 to get it to the states.

i think bull is working on a deal with another mudder for his troopie right now. if not, then i would strongly consider his rig. it's already here and it's LHD which makes it more appealing should you ever sell it. however, i don't think it's in as good a condition as the one pictured above.

i assume this is an 83?!

The price for what you are getting is a great deal. I paid about 3k to have mine shipped to the US including having the customs paper work done. A few cans of rust bullet or por and you should be set. :) Talk to jsaltlick and see when he has a container coming over. Ya might be able to save some on shipping, and get some parts at the same time. :)

Also, where is it located? You might be able to get someone local to look at it for you.

NICE. Looks good from the pics. And it has a 2h engine:), I cannot imagine the driveability on that one.....I have only experienced driving one with a rebuilt H engine. Check if you can have him check in between the frame rails for rust. They have a tendency of holding dirt/mud and if not taken care of can cause major problems to the frame. I have frame right now that rusted through for this reason. I don't think this one would have this problem but have him check to make sure. Good Luck

looks like they did a good job replacing the front floors. Looks like overspray on the hood bumpers, so I suspect it has been resprayed. There could be previously repaired rust in the hood where the bubbles are starting to show, but really it looks pretty clean overall. It should have a 6 digit odometer, but it doesn't, any idea how many kms? Roro shipping is pretty cheap right now. Oil is down, and I'm getting one from Melbs to LA for about $2k. ~$400-500 hundred for the broker and then the cost of getting it inland to my house. Price is pretty reasonable.

It's supposed to be an '82.
I'll see what the outcome might be of Bull's troopy, as well as determining whether to go after this rig seriously or not.

I'm in Japan now, but I would have it shipped to the States.
I've had a couple of OZ residents who have told me that they might be able to check it out. So if the further pictures look as good as the ones I've received thus far I am planning on begging one of them to check it out in person. :)

I've read that the 2H parts are (somewhat?) easier to come by than the H. And hopefully it would be decent to drive. I would probably end up putting a turbo in it sometime (way) down the road, again, "IF" I end up getting it.

And it even comes with a whistle.:) Just noticed it.
You're better detective than me! ;)

The seller told me that he did try to address all of the rust issues when he acquired the vehicle about four years ago.

But I do see some bubbles.
I'll try to ask for pics of the area fjwagon suggested above and see what they look like, along with additional pictures that I have requested earlier.

What do you mean that it "should" have a 6 digit odo? Are you saying that the speedo/assy has been replaced at some point? BTW, hope you're sittin' down because it supposedly has a whopping 400,000kms (250k-ish miles). I was told that the vehicle has been in the postal service, as well as a school district (school bus), but has been maintained well (He knew the history and most of its previous owners, one of which was a mechanic).

I figured it might cost upto $3k to get the vehicle over to the US, along with the paperwork and stuff.

Thanks for all of your feedbacks and input, I really appreciate it!

I'll see if the vehicle does not get snatched up before I make the decision and also if the seller sends me the additional pictures.

Thanks again!

Mot :)

Looks as good as you're gonna get! You'll spend over $10K for a troopy in the states that will be far rustier and have fewer options. Importing is easy. All trucks will have issues no matter where you get it from.

I say grab it up. Looks great. Buy some color matched rattle cans and a new headliner and you're golden!!
