I was headed down the freeway at a pretty good clip and then she started to stall, I heard a huge backfire out the exhaust and then she died....I had good oil pressure too....after I came to a stop, I popped the hood and saw a slight bit of smoke coming from under the electronic distributor....I have it advanced 4 degrees for altitude. Ever hard of this? Probably the dist got smoked?

Any help appreciated!

The teeth on the gear sheared off the bottom of mine which was a GM HEI dizzy. the GM teeth do not exactly match the gearing inside the 2F so eventually they wear out. Same thing happened to mine on Rte 95. Had a nice pile of metal flakes in the bottom of my oil pan too. Pull it out and see if the teeth are worn down

I bought an HEI replacement with a toyota specific gear on the end from eBay. The seller's name was heidizzy. very happy with it

When I had my 2F motors in my 55 and 40, I used Pertronix setups in both. Non of this using gm dizzys in a toyota engine. The pertronix setups run for years with the stock dizzy without one bit of problem. One of the best additions you can do in a cruiser, IMHO.

I guess I should've mentioned that I have a HEI dist....it's probably a Pertronix...can you rebuild the insides? It's def smoked and smells like burnt plastic inside.

How is the play in the rotor end of your dizzy shaft? Mine developed a wobble and started to wear away at the plastic bits of my crane optical pic-up. In the last couple of days of its life, it would miss almost an entire revolution of firing, finally howling the distributor howl of death. The electronic toyo dizzys can be found w/ any 60 and late 40 on the part out page- get the ingitor w/it.

All that is why the pertronix's setup is better than HEI. I used a dizzy from a 69 F motor in my 75 2F that had vacuum advance, not vacuum retard. Ran it for 10+ years with no problems.
