Lots of interest on the 70 rear bumper. But, unfortunately it is on the way back to WY with me. So, @elkaholic ... the platform is set for your build. I'll get in touch with you tomorrow or Tuesday to finalize details.

Thanks again all,

Jason

Sam, I need to take a few days off to go look at a house.... You good with me pushing you back a week? I wish I had a few 70s products ready to go because I would hit ONSC and the 70 meet-up as well. Just have to drive a LITTLE LONGER... HA!

Andrea technically retired Friday.................................. So, new things on our, my, Trail-Tailor horizons.

Jason -
Good work all around. Congratulations on the continued success of your business, well earned. Also, thanks for your support to the 70 Series community.

Now, if you could only make it to Alabama in two weeks!

Cheers

Thanks Ward, If I had any 70 inventory I'd be all over coming.. Next year for sure. Maybe by then I'll have everything squared away and be able to bring my own 70 with some inventory and a raffle bumper to boot...

Sorry to hear this year won't happen. Excellent plan for next year :)

Maybe my 73 will make in person at Cullman '16....

Not an issue. Understand the house bit as I have a an inspection on a home we are trying to buy on Tuesday. We will get to it when you are ready, sir!

Some more progress today:

New tie rod and relay rod ends (555 from @cruiseroutfit ... Thanks Kurt!):

And I found that my tie rod was, well, not so straight. So off we go with the torch and a log/tree to straighten her up. I learned this originally from Dr.Rich at CMCC 2005... Then saw it related by @TrickyT during Rubithon 2009 (I think Tom might have straightened 2-3 TR's that year.

Good as new.

Nice, That's the kind of precise work I can usually accomplish….Could be getting my truck back from inspection today….:bounce:

Sounds to me like it's time for an HD tie rod and drag link, especially with the bigger tires .........

BUMPER BLING

I didn't really do it "on" the 73, as it is at Torfab for a make-over, but I did take delivery of some Toyota badges "for" the truck.

One of these will go on the bull bar, along with a Come Up winch (thanks, Tor for scoring a great deal on model close-out).

Now, maybe some LEDs for the parking/turn lights. :)

Thank you for noticing, Sam, very good bang for the buck. Please select one of the following witty responses:

A) "Plagiarism - the sincerest form of flattery"

B) "I steal all my best ideas"

C) "If it's good enough for you, it's better for me"

:)

D) All of the above ;)

Front bearing repacked. Was gonna Do the whole she-bang but ran out of time.

All new bits, down to the hardware.

So looks like it's been quite awhile since anyone has been down this proverbial hole. Very dry manual hubs, but the grease did the job of keeping things dry.

Since this vehicle is new to me, all new Koyo wheel bearings. The kit is Terrain Tamer. First time I have used their bits but damn am I impressed. The front flange gasket was thick and substantial material. Almost corrugated--a good thing.

The oil seal was solid and slid right in with a tap. Sizing was excellent.

I added a new thust washer from Toyota And the deal was done. Spindle looked great too

All new brake hoses. Axle to backing plate, axle to frame, frame to 2ways, and new hard lines to the calipers from the backing plate (poor design actually, happily the engineers figured it out by the early 1990's with the 80 series).

New hub studs and ancillary bits:

Important to make sure the threads are good on 30 year old assemblies:

Reman Toyota calipers:

New wheel studs (these easily get buggered):

New OEM rotors: These are a supersession and they leave out the two M10x1.25 bolts that you will take off when you pull your old ones off (regardless of market). Not sure the reasoning, but the engineers must have assumed that the wheel studs themselves would be fine.

And new OEM pass from Japan. The American iteration is now discontinued:

Toyota has had a number of quality brake suppliers for the Land Cruiser: Aisin, Sumitumo, ADVICS (subsidiary of Aisin).

Caliper ready to go with new clips and slide pins (these do not come with Toyota remans):

New soft hydraulic lines from axle to backing plate. Originals were nasty and cracked. Good I moved them out to the trash bin. These are the same as late FJ40/55/60/61/62 trucks:

The soft line, brake tube and caliper hardware:

New brake caliper bolts are essential IMO for a critical system:

Then we have the two soft lines from the fender to the 2way on the frame: Same for all BJ7x rogs(auto or manual, turbo or NA) (small lines).

The long lines are from a T100 application that @cruiserdan found years ago for the 80 series extended lines. They work great on the 70 with about 3.5" of lift. These are the frame to axle soft lines and they add about an extra 2" of travel.

You can see the difference between the stock lines and the extended lines:

I've used various Terrain Tamer kits over the past 5-6 years and am a big fan. I had a company special order me a lift kit for my first 60 back in
2009, always nice to work with quality components.

Anyway, you all have seen this stuff before so I won't bore you with the details and will just post more pics. :)

Everything together:

New clutch slave cylinder. Soft line is discontinued from Toyota. Weird set up: Male-to-male fittings vs the usual male to female on most every other LC application.

I wasn't happy with the hose so I used an FJ60 rear frame to axle soft line, deleted the fitting to adapt to the M10x1.0 hard line and just ran a soft line to the hardline. You have to remove a bracket on the fender, but otherwise you have tons of room to extend it and make it a conventional setup. :)

And decided on a quick tire swap. Put my 33x10.50x15 BFG KM2's on from my 60 just to see how it would do.

I think they will do well with the 4.11 gears and the 5speed. But they do need to be balanced. They haven't been ridden on in over a year. Look great though.
