keepin on truckin....
so it’s been a little while since the last update - thought I’d share a little progress with my little obsession...
its been Ramadan here for the last month - and no one has noticed that I have spent little time at work - allowing for me to hang out with my manual labor contingent.
In the last few weeks, I’ve swapped 3.73 gears in, in place of the 4.11's, giving me a slightly more comfortable ride when at higher speeds...while I had the diffs out I replaced the pinion shafts, bearings and seals as well as installing an aussie locker in the rear, I haven’t really had a chance to give it a 'spin' [hahahahahaha] yet, but I did jack up one side and was able to pull away without any effort, I do get a little wheel spin on the inside wheel when powering through turns tho...but there is almost no weight in the back...
I was also super excited to finally receive my OME heavy kit, which took 6 months to get here, but the wait was worth it...due to the old sagged springs, I got between 2 and 4 inches of lift which is nice...still a pretty bumpy ride, but after I get it all loaded up and the aux fuel and water tanks in, I expect things to smooth out...
I’ve also been working on the dash - so I had the gauge plate made, a switch panel in place of the radio, the glove box, pads and everything else covered in leather...
I can finally get it 'safety' checked and licensed in my name with the long awaited addition of side mirrors, of the recent wrangler type - they work nice...
most recently I’ve started building the frame for the rear storage area, which currently consists of some 1.5" square tubing mounted to the same bolt holes the top uses to mate to the body...more on that to come
the roof rack is back at the metal guy to fix the mistakes he made the first time round, and to make and fit some sheet metal boxes and awning...they're also turning my rear jerry can holder into a spare tire holder - much more applicable...
after the long weekend coming up, perhaps the metal guy will be done [...it’s amazing how long '3 days' can be...] and I can get him on my 2.5" exhaust, snorkel and aux fuel tank...then I figure I’ll be practically done...
