Hi Bob.

First of all THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! I sincerely appreciate it and would like to shake your hand and buy you a beer or a coke when you return as a very small token of appreciation.

Man, do I know where you are coming from on selling the 40. I sold my 1989 FJ62 about a year ago after almost 12 years of ownership. Tough, but It was time to move on.

Your to import a 79 sounds epic. I love those trucks. It would be unique in the deep south as far as I know. It has been a few years since I really dug into the issues regarding importing non-USA trucks. The stand out problem that is difficult is the 25 year rule, which I'm sure you are familiar with.

I've taken the liberty of starting a thread on the CLC forum to welcome you to the club as well as to dig deeper in answering your question about importing. Here's the link:

Hopefully your internet access will allow you to get a username and join the discussion during your deployment. Please let me know if you can't access the link above to our forum on ih8mud.com. If not, I'll cut and paste the discussion to email.

Looking forward to shaking your hand.

Sincere gratitude,

Welcome Mr. Bailey. x2 on Greg's comments. I feel your pain on selling your 40. I sold my first one when I joined the Navy, followed by 25 years of sellers remorse. Finally bought another one, but still regret turning loose of the original. Sorry I can't help on the import tips, but I'm sure there are others here who can.

Get home safely. Hope to see you in Hattiesburg one of these days.

Welcome. We need to get you in touch with the fellow that had mine imported. Bodean, will probably chime in on this and help. I can get in touch with him thru Facebook....might take a day or two.

Thanks for your service!

Thanks for your service my Bro in Arms! 25 years and still going here! Please contact us upon your return. Hell, we'll throw you a welcome home party and we don't even know you! That's the way we roll!

Welcome and thank you!!

Welcome to Cottonland.
Thank you for your service. I too would like to buy you a beer.
Hope you can work out the details on getting a 79 series to the Magnolia state. That would be awesome.
Good Luck & see you soon!

He is a link to everything you need to know about importing a non-US vehicle into the US. Vehicle Importation and Certification Requirements

Before you commit be prepared to spend way more than you intended to and wait way longer. I have been through the process and it sucks. I think thats why i have so much gray hair at age 28 (crazy wife to blame as well). Make sure you use a Registered Importer(RI). Be sure that RI has the capability of bringing the vehicle up to NHTSA standards. Once the vehicle arrives the RI has 90 days to perform the modifications needed to meet standards. This includes emissions, crash testing and saftey. If it is not brought up to spec it is either sent back to it"s origin(you will pay for shipping), auctioned or crushed. Went through this process on a 99 Skyline GTR only to have it sent back and it was already in the US with a Florida title. Good luck. The easiest way is to wait for it to be 25 years old and at that point you can bring in whatever you want.

I would look on Ebay too....there are quite a few floating around that come in legally and get sold that way.

Watch Mud classifieds too. Most all get linked to the 70 series forum. That's a tight group.
