Brent,

I am assuming that you are a golfer based on your avatar. If so we need to tee it up sometime. I have not played a whole lot this year and I miss it. I am new to CA for I need to meet some new golfing buddies.

I was a golf pro in my previous life. I miss playing a lot. Let me know if you ever need a 4th. I have really cool clubs to look at if nothing else. I live in south Long Beach and am willing to drive.

I am Kevin, i have met quite a few of your already. I met Tare at the Surf and Turf and then saw his rig at the 1000 this year in Ensenada, small world!!! Thanks for setting this up Tare!

I live in the Clairemont area of San Diego.

I got a 93 FZJ80 with a bunch of mods

Looking for a cool group of folks to wheel some light-moderate trails with that arent into destroying their rigs in the process!

I travel to Baja a lot and would love to explore it more with a group of 80's!

My 80 is being built as a self sufficent long range travel rig and will have all the goodies to be away from home for weeks at a time!

BOYDMICK we have to talk! :D

I am currently designing/fabbing a custom rear bumper and once that is done, i will be ready to wheel this thing.

List of mods so far:

-OME Heavy Lift (swapping in J's and 864's in the next few weeks and these will be for sale)

-20lb CO2 Tank
-Alpine Head Unit with iPod direct connect (w/60gb ipod)

-Retrofit Rear Electric Locker
-Garmin 276c Navigation System
-OZ Spec Overhead OEM Console with Subtank Gauge and Altimiter
-JDM Spec Sunvisors to work with console

Boston,

Based on what I heard last week from all of the guys at the gathering, you are going to fit right in with this group. We all care for our rigs, Baja was mentioned several times (myself included) and we didn't seem to be very high on abusing the wagons for no reason. I can't wait to see your cruiser and follow that long range tank process. You have a lot of mods that I need to pick your brain on. I think that we should try to set up an annual (or semi annual) Baja trip for wagons. My LX is no where near ready now, but I bet 10-12 months from now it will be. ARB front and Hanna sliders in near future.

Very Cool! When i had my heep and went out with the Heep guys, it seemed as if they would push the rigs way past their limit and damage them to impress each other. Not my cup of tea! :D

Hell Yes! I would be all over this in a heartbeat! Baja isnt for everyone though and the rigs must be in 100% perfect working order, there is no AAA or anything like that down there! :D :D :D Spare parts and extra fuel is almost required! Just something to think about!

Look forward to wheeling with and meeting you all!

Kevin:

Good to hear from you. I hope to see you at the next run. I leave next week for Easter Heep Safari. I will take lots of pictures for you guys.

Thanks Tare

Likewise, i am in the process of building a custom rear bumper tire carrier thing and wont be hitting the trails until i got some solid protection in the rear. Hopefully before mid may, and i DEFINITELY want to have it done for the 500 (you going?)in case i get nerfed! :D

After then, i am free most weekends! Woo Hoo!

Looking forward to wheeling more!

hello

I Just now found this group! (can't believe I missed it as I spend a good chunk of the work day on mud.. er..)

anyway, my name is Mike and I live just west of El Centro. I work for a school district in the imperial valley as a technology coordinator. I'm single and live alone except for two dogs.

I have a blue, stock, locked, 80. I'd post a pic but.. with out any cool mods, it looks just like a blue, stock 80.

I've run into a few of you already. Biff and Calamaridog.

This last winter and spring, I've been exploring around the anza borrego area and have limited myself from going in too deep because I was alone. I really look forward to wheeling not only with other 4x4s but an 80s group from MUD!
I wish I could make it to big bear this weekend(6-17) but I heard about it too late.
I will be keeping an eye open for the next round up!

Mike,

Are you the one the Norcal group ran into coming down from Coyote Canyon outside Borrego Springs in February? I was the white cruiser with the fire pit up top if you were.

Glad you found this little 'growing' group.

I don't think so. the only other cruiser I've run into was on his way out from TDS this year and he hadn't heard of MUD so I don't think it was me you met.
eta: I've got one of those firpits like yours. works great! wanted to use it this last weekend in the haulapai mountains but they had a TOTAL fire restriction.

I'm not even bringing mine this weekend for two reasons. 1 - I don't have replacement for the factory rack yet and 2 - I don't want to risk a fire since we're real dry already this season and there was just a small brush fire in the area.

Even enclosed in the tub, I don't want to risk it.

Wise decision Brent but I am bummed I won't get to see Sputnik in his element.

Welcome and hello...

My name’s Joe. I live in Mission Viejo, and work in LA with Echo_29 (NorCal 80) and Otis (FJ40's and carpool buddy). I’ve ‘wheeled since the early 70’s with my first Jeep, a 1965 Wagoneer (dang, I feel old!). A few years later, I bought a CJ-5. I then “saw the light”, and got my first Landcruiser – a 1983 FJ40. I was newly married and commuting quite a distance to work, so I replaced it with a 1984 pick-up that I modified a little (lift kit, bigger tires, posi-traction and 4.88’s). Kids (1 daughter and 2 sons) came along and I got busy with other things. I bought an FJ62 as a “first car” for my daughter when she began driving, and realized how much I missed ‘wheeling. I installed a TLC intake, re-routed & opened-up the exhaust, and was about to add sliders, and an OME lift kit to the ’62, when I decided to buy the ’80. I plan a lift and sliders for the ’80 as soon as I sell the ’62 and a ’96 Suburban. No pics yet, you all know what a stock cruiser looks like. As Tare said in his opening post – “I am looking to meet people who want to get out and explore trails. Looking for a family oriented crowd, who are concerned with keeping trails open and enjoying the outdoors.” I wasn’t able to make the recent Big Bear run, or the “inaugural” Wildomar run, but I look forward to meeting and ‘wheeling with you all.

Welcome Joe :flipoff2:

Look forward to meeting you at our next run. We have multiple non lifted 80's (myself included) right now so don't worry about that. It actually might be a long while before mine sees the springs.

Any friend of Scott and Chris is more than welcome. You pick your friends well! Look forward to meeting you.

Welcome Joe. Great to have you, turns out there are more and more 80 owners around here, you and I share the same city. :D This is a great group of people, look forward to meeting you.

Good to have you here, Joe. An official MUD welcome to you.:flipoff2:

My wife mocked me at first when I told her that a group of 80 series owners was getting together for a camping/wheeling weekend, because she didn't think you could be friends with someone just because they drive the same car as you. Well, she may have a point, but I think the folks in this group have a lot more in common than just Cruisers. We are all generally mechanically-minded people, we're family oriented, and we enjoy the outdoors. I predict that as we have more get-togethers, we're going to find even more things we have in common.

For example, we've already learned that Ray has brass balls, and that Kevin knows WAY too much about Brent's anatomy!

Well put Dan, I couldn't have said it better myself. There is something about this forum or the type of people that want to own and use a Landcruiser. They all seem to be quite good people. In stark contrast if you took the group of people who like to drive Ford Rangers with the front higher than the back and unpainted fiberglass fenders I think you would find a completely different demographic of people. :D

I agree with both of you...

BTW Dan the Balls get me in trouble some time.....(3 kids...)

It is amazing but many of the same things that drew me to cruisers are similar to everyone else. If you think about it we all bought them for the same reason, reliablily, off road capablity and it fit the dual mode of tranportation and 4 wheeler.

I do find it interesting that we are all relitively in the same age bracket. With similar skills, backgrounds and interests and that this forum was the tool that brought us all together. I am actually looking forward to doing more as a group and being able to learn from others while having some fun and getting away for a while....

I really think that we have a good group and everyone brings something different to the group. If we are able to continue to do things, one every other month or so and keep the cost reasonable we will grow alot. I am amazed at the number of people who are similar to us and are looking for something like this where they can go with their kids (good enviroment), see some beautiful scenery, eat excellent food(Brent) and wheel.

Hope to see you all again soon, and looking forward to doing more in the future......
