Hey, everyone -

I created a welcome post in the TAC Introduction section a week or so ago (link below). This seems like an awesome group of cruiser guys.

I recently bought a (fairly) local '94 - MoJ's old 80 series, and am looking to update/upgrade a thing or two. So far I've done some basic fluid maintenance: engine oil change and Amsoil in both diffs and tcase. I picked up a set of refinished OEM wheels, and now am on a search for 295/75/16s.

Can anyone recommend a place in the KC area to pick up a set of all terrains for a good price?

Likewise, an aftermarket rear bumper is on my list, ideally the 4x4Labs unit. Is there a good place in KC that sells this stuff? It doesn't have to be the 4x4Labs bumper.

Thanks for any help, and I look forward to getting to know folks.

Thats a great truck you ended up with. Tried to talk a friend here in springfield into buying it but he cant make quick decisions. I am not sure how much maintenance you will need to do a MOJ was very anal about his up keep on that truck. That was one of the value pluses on the purchase as a guy wouldnt have to spend the money you normally would baselining the truck.

Most of the aftermarket stuff for 80's will come from the manufacture of the product and not local. Zane on he can get you ARB stuff and they make a rear bumper. You can get the 4x4 labs bumper from them and slee offroad makes nice rear bumper. I want to say the 4x4 labs is the highest price on. There are also a couple of other companies making them but they are mostly custom jobs. Justin at redline landcrusiers builds custom land cruiser armor.

What are you doing with the 315 Toyo's that were on his truck. I didnt think that they were that old.

You're right, I'm very happy with it, and Jason was great to deal with. The truck really "needs" nothing. Most of what I intend to do is more of a light "restoration" effort. Some other plans are refinishing/repairing some of the fender flares, pulling a dent or two and fixing the first signs of a few rust bubbles on the lift gate. But I love the damn thing as it sits. I'm just an 80 geek, simple as that.

Where the heck are some trails in the Liberty area? I found nothing, but I've been out of the wheeling scene for a long time.

I plan to sell the Toyos when I get some more streetable tires (this is my DD). But, I may just hang on to them as I get it off road more.

Thanks for the info, I may get in touch with Zane regarding a rear bumper.

Welcome and congrats on picking up a great truck.

I can't really help with tires in the KC area but you might track down Zane and see what brand of rear bumpers he carries. Otherwise you're looking at ordering one and having it shipped via truck freight or fabricating one locally.

If you go with ordering one there are a number of good vendors out there with 80 series bumbers; Bump-it-Offroad, Slee, IPOR and of course 4x4labs. Of the bunch Bump-it-Offroad and IPOR are probably the most competitively priced but shipping will be slightly more from VA than Greely, CO.

I'm not sure about Costco for tires anymore. They went from being awesome to getting rid of the pro comp wheels and being kinda tight wads - they carry BFG of course and they have to order ATs, MTs etc.

I have been ordering all my tires on tirerack or discount tires and having them shipped here. No sales tax, and prices are usually great. NTW will install for 15 each (they have contract with online company to install them)

As far as ordering tires online, I've had good results from Tire Rack, Online Tires and most recently Discount Tire Direct. In fact Discount does a great job of price matching anyone on the internet and shipping has been included with my last two orders. I think I paid $250 each shipped for the new style GY MTRs.

This may sound bad but I have Walmart mount my tires. There are two kids there that know what they're doing. The LC uses ceramic beads so all they do is mount them and the car has never had any troubles. YMMV though.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've used Tirerack.com and Discounttiredirect.com, and have been happy with both. This time around, the latter has better deals but is out of the tire/size I'm looking for. I've decided on duratracs. Anyway, I'll report back on what I wind up doing.

I have 1 BFG A/T 275/70R16 tire with less than 200 miles on it that I would make you a killer deal on. It's the stock 80 size, I think. You could get the other 3 from discount tire or tire rack and come out ok.
Also, I've purchased 2 sets of tires from Tread Wright over the last year and have been very happy with the performace and even happier with the price. Check them out at www.treadwright.com

I have the treadwrights on my tundra and they have been great. Half the price of BFG at's. 30k on them and they look great. At least 4 other members here in SPringfield have treadwrights on their trucks for several years and good results. I know Woody's has run them for years on his 80.

I really appreciate the thought/offer, but I'm looking for 295/75/16s. It looks like I'll be getting Nitto Terra Grapplers from Customwheelzntires.com. The name sounds cheesy, but they have great prices. Man, it sure is hard to find tires in that size...

A friend of mine bought a set from Treadwright and is very happy. That's the first place I checked, but they don't carry a tire in the size I want. They do have a 305/70/16, which I would be OK with, but it only came in a MT.

I have had sets of the NTG's on my 100 and my last Tundra. Going with a set on my Tundra when the original ones wear out. The set I had on my Tundra lasted about 65k, albeit mostly highway driving.

Thanks for the feedback. I've heard almost all good things about NTG's. My impression is that you can't go wrong with them for an All Terrain tire.

I want you guys to know that Matt promised to bring his 80 to the SMORR event. :)

Well I dunno that 'promised' is the right word. :D But I'm workin' on it. It sure sounds like a good time.
