Hey, just thought I'd send out a note that I'm working on my truck this Saturday in case anyone cares or has any input that might help me out. This is dependent on receiving my parts by tomorrow, though.

On the list?
--coolant flush and fill
--new thermostat
--new hoses
--new PHH
--new belts
--new fan clutch
--transmission flush and fill
--front diff fluid change
--power steering flush and fill
--clean the radiator
--lube u-joints and shafts
--try to isolate a driveline clunk--happens when i accelerate from a stop. sounds/feels like the rear but not sure.
--try to isolate driveline vibes--think the front shaft is vibrating since the caster correction--may have to go to a DC shaft after all. Isn't really bad, but is noticeable.

Probably won't get it all done--I'll be starting Friday night. Heck, if anyone's bored, I have beer and you can laugh at a rookie wrenching in his driveway.

Brett

You mean the gurus on the 80s-tech section? Maybe? :D

Primarily adding cooling insurance for hauling and towing loads--I don't like watching the needle rise on the mountain pulls!

I wish I could come out and help you, at least laugh at you and drink your good beer. ;)I think I'm finally gonna get around to spraying some bed liner on my rig this weekend. Tired of the crummy look it has now. The :hillbilly: look will be much better. Anyway, GL with your projects. Let us know how the phh goes.

Hey, you're more than welcome to come out--I'd help you with your junk, too.

BTW--it looks like the wrenching will happening Sunday, now. Which is better, because then I'll have all day to get fluid on myself.

I am doning it at my buddys house. He has a compressor and appearantly he doesn't care about over spray. Should take all day. I have all the prep work to do. Not looking forward to that part.

Well I got my rig sprayed. What a pia. I wonder how many brain cells I lost from the xyelene. It didn't turn out bad, ran in a couple of spots. Over all I'm happy with how it looks.
How did your projects turn out Brett?

Good deal on the liner!
Unfortunately, not finished! The :princess: had planned some social events I had forgotten about. dangit! Going to take off work tomorrow to finish it up.

Did get the new PCV valve, grommet and hoses put on, new T-stat in, coolant drained and some of the hoses replaced (replacing pretty much everything), and the new fan clutch attached to the fan blades. Oh yeah, and a couple new stickers.

Still have to finish replacing hoses, including PHH, install new belts and put the fan clutch/ fan shroud back in. Then I can get to to the coolant flush and tranny flush.

<----Check out the new digits, yo . . .

cool stuff.... I did most of those items within the last few weeks as well. I have been wrenching feverishly! Add to the list a starter rebuild and throttle body/intake removal, cleaning, and replacing most of my emissions components. I still have a pesky driveline "whir" when I'm on the gas, and it is only getting louder (I currently can't talk on my cell phone when I'm on the gas). I'm not sure on the cause, yet. Hoping for a group wrenching day and I'll bring the  cause I'm a little hesitant to tear into my driveline/pinion:o

Anyway, I hope you get things buttoned up and I look forward to getting out there with you all this weekend!:bounce:

Chris, PICS?

Chris, PICS?

hmmm, driveline noises. Me too. Ignoring it for the present but still need to check it out at some point. Mine isn't to the point of pre-empting conversation, though.

we can compare notes on Saturday... all the talk on the 80's tech about wheel bearing failure has me wondering..... mine has been steady for about 20k miles, though.

Damn bird pooped on it already.

Dang! Chris, I gotta say I really like your choice of lines. I think following that upper body line looks way better than following the flare lines down low. How did you wrap it around the back? Oh wait--never mind--I can see in the one pic you left the tailgate alone.

Sorry--won't be there on Saturday. I'm pretty sure it's not my wheel bearings. Just replaced them about 3000 miles ago. I'm pretty sure mine's related to the caster correction I just did since that's when it started. I have to measure some pinion angles and crap, disconnect the front shaft and see what i get. More worrisome is a clunk I get when accelerating from a stop. Think it's coming from the back but not sure.

I know--I'm not going to ignore it for THAT long!

I picked that line more for function than look. That is where the trees rub the most. Jim and I were looking at the tail gate, it looks like it needs some spray. Luckily I have another can of the Herc.:grinpimp: Enough to fix the runs and do something on the back.

I understand the function, too--that's why I like it--it covers where the pinstriping happens but follows a good line down the body, too.

Back on topic, kinda . . . found my coolant leak last night--sure enough, I believe it's the PHH. Going to fix it tonight. Also pulled my front driveshaft off. Wow, the truck is as smooth as buttah this morning on the way to work . . . AND. . . the acceleration clunk is gone.

More! My front pinion is leaking so I think I'll be fixing that before putting the front shaft back on. The U-joints both have tight spots in them so at a minimum I'll have to replace those. I'm also going to measure the pinion angles and stuff to see if a DC driveshaft makes more sense. whee.

The CDL switch was some good money spent!
