I was awakened this morning by my oldest daughter, quite excited that we were going 4x4ing. The truck was pretty much packed already, just had to make a few sandwiches and away we went, to meet up with the rest of the crew for a 10am rendezvous at the Sasquatch.
I was a few minutes late due to the obligatory potty breaks on the way, but Kim & Brenda with their 3 kids, 2 dogs, and a military trailer in tow behind their 60, along with Rob and his daughter in his fj40 were patiently waiting.
We had Kim lead us on so he could set a comfortable pace, and a little after 11 were down on the sandy beach of Hale Creek. We had taken the 'easy' way in, as I tried to be easy on Kim with his trailer, and Rob had never been down there before.
A camp fire was made, but it was rather warm out, at least until the sun sunk behind the mountains an hour or so later. The kids had fun throwing rocks and playing with the dogs, and shortly after are arrival, we heard the rumble of a diesel, as Rob C (Fly Cruiser) and his 2 kids joined us for the afternoon. Rob had to leave early, as he had some dinner cooking to do.
After some exploration, fossil hunting, hot dog & marshmallow eating, we packed up for the afternoon and began to meander homeward. Kim took the lead out, and headed up the 'hard' way. As I chugged along behind him, I began to think he had turned around somewhere, as he was nowhere in sight. It turns out that with a trailer and 3b, speed overcomes open differentials, so he had rocketed up at about 40kmh!
Rob C had headed up to check out Sunrise Lake, and caught up to us again when we stopped for a scenic photo break.
It was an uneventful ride home, the ride back down always seems to be quicker for some reason.
And as Greg mentioned, we couldn't of had a more beautiful November day.
