estimate is at about 7+ G's. im hoping ICBC wont write it off. i'll cry. lots :crybaby:

Looks like you were on the loosing end of a joisting match. Been there myself but through the front light, battery and firewall.

Probably a lot easier to cut and weld in a new piece rather than try to pound it out. Too bad my neighbour has sworn off of fixing other people's vehicles for now and is now onto his own projects. It wouldn't take him long to get that ready for paint if you could provide the roof section. He does real nice classic restoration work at very good prices. If they write it off, you might be tempted to buy it back and have it fixed that way.

yep..well not a branch. it was the actual trunk, nicely hidden behind the long overhanging brush. i missed it due to the angle it was sticking out at and misread it, not wanting to hug the cliff side too much. thought it'd ride right over the roof, but nope. i ended up losing this jousting match. such a stupid mistake. had i been on some hardcore obstacle on the brink of rolling it...i wouldnt feel so dumb :(

i was thinking it might be able to be cut out and patched in, but the estimater at JP toyota said id need a big chunk of the leading edge of the roof to be replaced as its a structural area. brackets and such up in there...

whats the procedure of buying back your write off? isnt it illegal to reinsure afterwards if its a T/L?

No its not illegal to buy it back once it has been written off. Make sure you tell your adjuster now that you want to buy it back or it could be gone before you get a chance at it. Once it is fixed up - and likely has to pass a VI - then it will be licensed and insured as a rebuilt.

That sucks.

On the other hand if they say repair is higher than replacement/write off value you do have the option of having them cut you a cheque and making up the difference in value to cover repairs yourself. Especially since it seems like the price of repair is excessive, unless that entire roof is tweeked. Not like JP wouldn't have an interest in selling you a shiny new truck in todays market.

thats the thing though. i dont want a rebuilt status on my truck. if they do end up writing it off and completely lowball me on its value, i'll see if i can remove parts that are worth their weight in gold to me but nothing to them. i'll end up losing big time if they just give me fair market value. unless it ends up getting fixed, i'll lose either way. not sure if i want to risk getting it fixed on the cheap. i dont think the roof is tweaked though, but i do think that one corner is a structural area and prone to leaks/rust if done improperly.

oh and i never went to see an adjuster. i just called up the dial a claim, and they processed it through their express procedure (straight to the body shop) since JP is one of their 'valet' shops or whatever. since its becoming more involved, i'll probably end up having to bring it in for further investigation.

we'll see what happens in the next couple days when JP gets back to me...
