Thanks, pretty sure I'll go with the Husky's from amazon warehouse for $56, just to many other places the extra $ can go in my tank!

I could be wrong, but given that the mold is the most expensive part of manufacturing the mats and that these are already a low volume model, I seriously doubt they would remake the mold to add the factory clip location.
I believe they are using 3D printers to produce these, therefore no mold.

I wasn't sure so I just became a Google expert on this. ;)

" Every new car model requires new molds for floor mats that fit — creating an expanding list that's up to 18,000 part numbers. To produce the molds, MacNeil says he employs his own tool-and-die makers. Beyond WeatherTech-branded mats, the company does private-label work for eight automakers, including Kia and Volkswagen."

Hmmmm. How old is that info? I was under the impression the only reason they actually decided to do ours was now they don't have to spend money on molds. All they have to do is 'laser' the contour of the floor and viola!!! I'm curious now.

They are molded. Easy enough to tell when you look at them. Production run timeclock is also molded into the bottom. I think we are a few years out from 3D printing being a cost effective volume production solution.

Tool and die makers are listed in the article as being in house and making the molds. I would think that means metal.

I ran without the screw in "holder" for a week before I installed it. They slid around a bit without it. Not bad but more than I liked.

These are vacuum molded one by one. The process takes a few seconds. It's a single sheet which heat is applied to then vacuum formed over a mold.

There is no 3D printing involved.

I was wrong. For the first time in history, I was wrong. I do own a 3D AR-15 though. I figure if we can make a weapon to blow these smelly ass ISIS away then we can make floor mats out of it but I guess not. Yet.

Got mine today. To say I'm not impressed is an understatement. I've owned these same mats in 2 Dodges and my Tundra. These don't even compare. They're thinner, shaped more loosely and color is off badly. Save your $128 and get something else!

I'll trade you for a set of husky mats

Thanks, this sealed my decision to go with the open box husky's for half the price, even new shipped the husky's are less than $80

I can't speak to how the Weathertechs look in other vehicles and really it doesn't matter. They are still the best thing available in the US for the 80 and are significantly nicer than the Husky mats. The Sandgrabba mats from Australia may be nicer but I haven't seen any in person probably due to the expense of shipping them.

No. These may not be perfect but Husky's purely suck. I prefer Walmart $20 specials over Husky's.

You guys should try and petition for the 3D MAXpider mats. Have them in our '14 4Runner and boy are they awesome. Some weird rubber material that looks like carbon fiber from a distance.

@jcardona1,
Those 3d mats look badass! Has anyone ever figured out if there is a modern vehicle equivalent of the assorted mat shape offerings ( digifit rear seat, 3dxpider) for our 80's/lx's? A fit that is not perfect but good enough?

Regards
