The difference in weight between an 8274 and M12K is 26 lbs.

Any winch is going to add weight to the front, but the ability to pull youself and others out of an unfortunate situation is well worth it.

M12000 is WAY overkill for an 80. I had an M8000 on my Rover (just as heavy as a built 80) and with the proper gear you can get yourself out of any situation in my opinion.

The M12000 weighs a wopping 136lbs. My XD9000 weighs in at 78lbs. Throw some synthetic on there and its almsot half the weight of that M12.

What advantage does the M12 have? maybe pulling yourself out without using a snatch block i guess.... I keep two snatch blocks in my gear bag. I'll stick with the snatch blocks and a light weight winch VS a fat turd (overkill) of a winch on the front.

I see what youre saying, and everyone has an opinion like we both have said. I just think if you have a recovery point to attach a winch, you have a recovery point to attach a snatch block. If a single pull wont do it, put an extension on and use the snatch block.

Just curious, but what springs are you running and how much did the front end drop with the M12000? what bumper are you running?

ARB front bar, IronMan 4" lift yadda yadda.

My thinking is sometimes you don't have the luxury of using a snatch block nor time to play with rigging. I like knowing that I can save my bacon or someone elses with a single line pull. I've had to do that more than once.

My truck is not a lightweight. I carry lots of stuff with me on a typical wheeling trip. Like a lumbering hippo, with style.

Also, with a single-pull you have better reach to an anchor. I've seen a number of scenarios where the closest anchor would be out of reach for a double pull, even with a good deal of extension.

It all overkill until you need it. Sorry, strongly disagree, but that's how I roll. No such thing as too much pulling power or too strong a piece of recovery gear.
My opinion.

x2
Those are my thoughts as well. These trucks tend to get loaded heavy quick on long trips, add a offroad trailer to the equation.....You'll be gald you went Overkill..........
