I need to hear from folks who have this winch on their 55. I would like to buy one, and I have a stock bumper on my 72 pig. It has been mounted before, all the holes are there, but the spacing from the back of the mount plate to the front frame member is only 6 inches. Is that enough room?

Here it is. The speaker goes away for the winch.

My 8274 needs 8.75 inches from the mounting plate surface to the rear drum surface. I think it's the same basic footprint as the 5687. I'd like to see a side view of Lil'John install as it looks like its recessed into all the right places and looks like it fits in less space.

Thanks. I think I'm gonna have to look at another type of winch unless I do a little fabbin'. Warn has a new one out that pulls 8000lbs... the 86245 or something. I have seen then for under $400 brand new. It only needs 6.5 inches. :hhmm:

Lil'John, I looks like your mount plate is the on the leading edge of the bumper which allows it to fit. Bigsal it looks like your measurement on the mount plate is at the rear.

I think the old Warn family is definitely something worth doing a little fab work for. It wouldn't be too difficult to fab a front mounting position.

I was trying to find a picture for you ... but FJ55s that came with the factory PTO had extended frame supports to make enough room for the winch. If you had a 8274 I would tell you it was definitely worth the trouble to make it work, but with the older 5687 it's gonna be a personal judgment call.

Not the best picture, but you can see the extenders bolted to the frame horns if you look close ...

Yeah, It looks like I need to open up that space a little. Just thinking and looking.

Cheers!
