Yep, I believe they were both 674-501. Straight, center dump, rams horns without any superfluous brackets to cut off.

Uber cool. That's the off the shelf combo I want to run. I don't have my tub on right now and that's the one loose end I haven't worked out.

I've run outside the rail duals for years, fantastic on days when your feet are cold, not so much any other day.

EDIT: English as a first language is hard.

This is exactly how I want to set mine up...Outside the frame headers are rusted and this is a great write-up!

Just a heads up, and for future reference, I ended up needing to modify the walker crossover pipe. Still not sure if I got a pipe with bad bends or if the Dorman Chinese repro Ram’s horns are just poorly formed - but I did have some trouble getting the two to match up.

In the end I welded about an extra 2” into the downpipe, which changed the bends for a better fit, and ditched the heat riser spacer.

This got me a bit more clearance with the oil pan (about 3/4”) and lined it up with my exhaust manifolds.

Another issue, if you plan to wheel it, is front driveshaft clearance:

Under flex on stock springs, I’m contacting the y-pipe with my front driveshaft. In asking around I’ve discovered I’m not the only one with this issue either. I’ll probably add a lift and lower the bump stops to try and avoid this in the future, until such a time I can replace it. For now, it still runs and does the trick.

I have 42087 - it's not installed yet as my engine is currently out of the truck. However, I've test-fit it and it should work nicely with my Dorman 2" center-dump Ram's Horns. It is 100% 2-inch pipe - it will not work with 2.5" ram's horns. I believe this is a reproduction pipe for an early Corvette. One thing to add is that you will likely need the heat-riser (or a heat-riser spacer) to clear the oil pan properly. This is about a 2" piece that mounts between the Ram's horn and the exhaust on side side of the engine. I picked my spacer up from Corvette Central (P/N: 322110). That said, beyond the spacer, you don't need any special oil pan, etc. for proper clearance.

I think I read somewhere that if you use two passenger-side Ram's Horns, you can get it to squeak by the oil pan without the spacer, but since I have an old 283 with no accessory holes in the head, I need the alternator-mount on the driver's side Ram's horn - so I'm going with a spacer.
So you only need one spacer with a pair of rams horns? Not one for each side right?

I had to go out and look, it has been a while. It doesn’t look like I used the heat riser blank/spacer at all. If I remember correctly I ran into a weird clearance issue with the crossover pipe. The aftermarket Dorman Ramshorn exhaust manifolds I used seemed to bend inward toward the block a bit more than stock Ramshorn manifolds did (or the pipe just wasn’t bent quite right). Either way, I wound up having to cut the Y-pipe to change the angle slightly to get it to mate up to both manifolds. When I did, I just welded in an extra 2” or so of pipe that wound up taking the place of the spacer.

Gotcha

Has anyone ever tried this Walker crossover pipe (PN# 40261)? It looks as if it would hug the left side frame rail better than the more popular Walker crossover pipe (PN# 42087).

Trying to figure out which one would work better on my SBC conversion.

Pictures of your crossover would be great!

Thanks for your help!

So 40261 and 42087 are all sold out when I google those part numbers. Does anyone know a place to find them? Jegs says they have them in stock but I ordered one two weeks ago and Cole to find out it’s on back order and they can’t give me any estimates on when they will have it.. So, does anyone have one, know where to get one, or know an alternative?

All the Walker cross over pipes have been discontinued in Canada for years. The reason I had to build my own. Hmm.
So I called walker/dynomax and they said they would have more at the end of June… but who knows how long it will be before Jegs or other parts distributers have them available. Does anyone know a part number or what to search for the exhaust fitting/flange that bolts to the rams horns so I can make my own. I asked walker/dynomax what part it is and they said that they don’t make one…. 🤬

Looks like I might have to make one and use a swedge/pipe expander. And might as well go stainless on the y-pipe since the rest of the exhaust will be stainless. I haven’t removed the old exhaust yet because I want to be able to drive it until I have all the parts to install the new exhaust all at once. So I’m 90% sure I have 2in outlets on my rams horns, will I use 2in tubing to make the inlets for the y-pipe or 2.5? I assume 2 but just making sure.

Did mine custom in 2005 still going strong today no issues. Wow it’s been awhile. lol custom 2 1/4 inch crossover into 2 1/2 inch single out the back . almost looks like a dual exhaust .

Do you have 2in or 2.5in rams horns? I think I’m going to make my own y pipe. Where do you get the two piece that fit to the header? The exhaust tube and the 3 hole plate that bolts it to the header?

Mine are 2 inch. Used a header flange I think to connect the 2 1/4 pipe to it , you can see what I had to use to make it fit I still used the spacer but removed the flapper on the one side and welded up the small hole from the flapper removal. Steel doughnuts also. Not the fibre type ones.

So, after debating on what I should do about a SBC crossover pipe, I decided to make my own.

My ram horns are 2.5" with 2.25" header buddies. The header buddies are really nice because you can rotate 360 degrees any direction and you can tweak the angle a bit.

From the header buddies I ran three 90 degree and two 45 degree elbows. With these pieces I was able to fabricate my own 2 into 1 collector.

The passenger side runs to the forward edge of the shallow end of the oil pan.
Currently I have about 3/4" gap between the pan and the pipe.

I do pan on wrapping all of the pipe with heat wrap.

So these header buddies, do the require a gasket in between them and the rams horns outlet? I’ve seen a few different styles the walker y pipes use one of those soft lead/graphite rings that compress in between, do the header buddies use the same style or something different, or they just seal up to the header once they’re bolted down? I’m trying to make a y pipe for sbc w/ 2in rams horns

Can you send me a link to some 2 1/4 header flanges you would recommend for the 2in rams horns? I can’t figure out which one is the right one. Technically it’s a 3in collector flange right? Could you connect a 2.5 in pipe header flange to 2in rams horns? I was thinking about just making it all 2.5 since the rest of the exhaust with be 2.5

I was gonna order these but I just want to make sure they’re the right ones before I do. And I I decide to just get some 2.5 rams horns would these work?

I seem to recall the Walker crossovers being out of stock when I bought mine too. I believe they make them once or twice a year, to fulfill orders to the folks who distribute them. Once they’re gone, they’re gone until the next production cycle. I don’t think they’re fully discontinued, just made to order, and demand is probably fairly low.

So with Rams horns do I need to run a certain type of gasket or style of reducer( I think that’s what it’s called..) make my own crossover pipe? I don’t see anywhere selling the style That’s on the walker crossover pipe, the first picture I attached. I can only find the type that uses a flat gasket like the second picture I attached.

so when you made yours what did you use to connect the y pipe to the rams horns? The donut type gasket like the walker y pipe or the flat gasket? Can I use the Jegs 3 in. Collector to 2 1/2 like in the second photo I attached to connect the y pipe I’m going to make to the rams horns? I just want to buy the right part so I can start doing my exhaust
