I've been looking for a Sidewinder winch for over a year now. I found this 1 for sale on CL. In the spring. The winch on the outside looked pretty good. Now the rebuild starts.

Unfortunately I did not take a picture of my winch before I disassembled it but here's a good representation of mine.

Some progress! 1 bearing did not want to come out.

I bench tested the winch prior to disassembly. Nothing happened. Now I can see why!

All the gears looked good except the spur gear. Gear has 25 teeth?? That was a pain to source!

The seals are toast.

Not much interest at this point!
Received a few parts.

Cleaned up the housing. I have part #s if anyone needs them.

Drilled and tapped the new Allen screw.

Winch is now completely torn apart. Found 1 more bearing to order and 1 dust seal.

Cleaned everything up and reassembled. Good news, the new oil seals and spur gear worked as planned.

Made the gasket.

I purchased a wireless remote, but bench tested it tonight. The motor works and the ole girl came back to life. Great feeling. Not sure if I can upload a short video? Here's the part# to new motor mounting nuts.

awesome job! great to see such a classic item getting a restore like you've done.

Old thread I know... I'm in the middle of putting my Sidewinder back together. I can see the bearing you have pictured is an R-12. Are there any other letters/digits in the part number? There's also a bearing on the worm drive shaft that is pressed in to the opening for the worm drive shaft. I see you found the bearing, but did you ever find a replacement bearing for it? Can you point me in the right direction? The bearing PN's are the last thing I need before I can reassemble. Found all the seal PN's on a different thread. Thanks!

Hoping this thread is still alive...

Can you get into a little more detail about what you did to the motor? How did you clean it and what procedure did you use to test it? Makes me wonder if its the same motor since the posts are oriented backwards to mine and it appears to be brand new.

I have an issue with the motor on mine and I would appreciate any information you have.

Thanks
