Here are the reviews of it on Amazon.

I searched Mud, but didn't find any threads mentioning this particular unit.

To set this thread up right, I've read almost every thread on here about OBA, portable air compressors, etc.

Just looking for expert/hands-on advice/opinions on pros/cons of portable vs. OBA and on this particular unit. Primary use will be airing up tires, air mattreses, and miscellaneous.

Below are the features and specs. from Viair.

Features:

- Gas Station-Style Tire Gun with 200 PSI Gauge
- 3-pc. Inflation Tips Kit
- Dual Battery Clamps with 40-amp Inline Fuse Holder
- Power Cord: 8 ft. / Air Hose: 25 ft.

Specs:
12-Volt
Permanent Magnetic Motor
Duty Cycle: 100% @ 100 PSI
Max. Working Pressure: 150 PSI
Max. Amp Draw: 19 Amps

Thanks!

I had some credit with 4wheelparts and got some other credit from a family member..
Paid about $50 for it after all the credit was applied...

I used it to air a 35" tire and some bike tires....

I can tell yah it is super quiet and it only runs when you press the trigger on the gun... any other time it turns off..
It did great inflating the 35" but I got nothing to compare it to... even better on bike tires..
I got it cause I dont see me running one of this units under the hood..
However, Im thinkering a york compressor under the hood.. its 20 times stronger that any other compresor but at $800+ for a set up... I'll stick with this one for a while...

Thanks for the input Manu.

Do you also have a roadie? If so, how do you fill the presta valves with it?

BTW - have you checked out Spresso's Sanden OBAv2?

Definitely a sweet set up.

Jerry - How much extra (i.e. parts) did it cost you to install it in your rig?

Thinking that down the road I might end up going that route.

Also, if you installed the 450P-automatic, why did you decide not to go with one of their (Viair) other kits?

A York set up can be had for a fraction of that price. I think I spent a total of $300 on my setup including all the fittings and regulator and tank, etc.
My setup is here:
OBA

I use a simple adapter $0.50 for one
I got a FS, Road and SS.. can never have enough bicycles

John.. I seen the york compressors for around $70 on CL but I still need to either fab or buy the bracket to mount to the Chevy engine....
I know it can be had for a lot less $$...

Thanks for the link

Harbor Freight sells one that's likely the same thing, just the Chinese knock-off version of it.

Specs are virtually the same, though the Viair offers a few features the HF doesn't.

Speaking from personal use, I have one of the HF ones and find it's perfectly adequate for my needs. It even fills up my 37's surprisingly quick for a small unit. I've used the heck out of it and haven't had any issues with it so far. I had the smaller version from HF before, and found it too slow (plus the air pressure gauge was hard mounted on it, too easy to get damaged).

I'd like to pick up a second HF one and mounting them side by side off a single switch. It'd let me double the CFM, and give me redundancy should one fail.

I also setup a york under my hood similar to jon's. Fabbing up a bracket did take some thought but all in all it was worth the time and effort. If you can weld and know what your doing to a certain extent.. go for it.

Thanks for the feedback.

I decided to go with the Viair unit for a lot of different reasons and placed my order today.

If I had some serious skillz like some of you have, I might've tried to fab my own OBA, but for right now, this fits my needs.

Thanks again!

I bought the Viair 400P-A. It has been a while, but I think I spent about $25-$35 on all the extra parts. It adds up fast, it could be more. They would include, 1/4 nylon air line, fittings, air block, filter, home made bracket to mate the compressor to the inner fender. Switches, wire etc.

I like this compressor because it has an internal shut-off switch. Although, I still have a master switch on my dashboard to power the compressor and a switch for the ARBs.

I also ran an air line out to the front bumper to avoid having to lift the hood everytime I need to use the air.

I also carry a Viair 450P-A and was giving some thought to hard mounting it so I emailed Viair. They told me the "portable" units are not made the same as the hard-mount units and it should not be hard mounted in the hot under hood area.

I can't tell you what is different because this conversation was over a year ago and I won't argue against doing it if it's working for you.

Now I carry CO2 with 450P-A as backup so I'm not too concerned with mounting it.

Heat is very hard on compressors, and reduces performance. Even with the small portable units, as you run them and they heat up, the CFM drops. If you're starting off hot, then you miss that 3-5 minutes of relatively top performance due to the unit starting off hot.
