To keep my 55 running while I continue to collect parts to get it back to stock I havd to put on a new gasket; the desmog was done in 75/76- thing is you pull off the headers and intake and there are no endport bolts to remove...just the inner studs. What is more odd is that the leak at the old paper/fiber gasket was in the middle with the ends remaining sealed. The notches on the end do not seem to match up with the bolt holes (block about 1/4"). Did people typically modify these headers or did they hold at the ends like that as the old gasket seemed to?

Along those same lines in my objecctive: Has anyone here ever been able to free up the two end ports of a later model exhaust manifold for the 2f...supposedly adjustable with the ring and spring inners?

Eric,

I am trying to follow you here, what year engine are you dealing with?

It is a 7/75 2f, but as respects the headers they are old Man-A-Fre from 75 or 76. 6 studs and two bolts for the manifolds (think the same on most?)

As for the long term, the matched intake and exhaust will be 77. That is a little confusing because the earlier were constructed dif. than the 77...just to make it better I will be using a 78 carb. So, the theory of the 77 exhaust manifolds were that the ends were fixed to the core of the manifold with a spring and rings so that the length of it was adjsuatable...but after 30 years of heat, grime and rust....well.

I will eventually get rid of the headers and I am trying to avoid shaving the exhaust (silly, I know).
