Hey all, lurker here that finally built up the courage to ask a question.

I've been on the lookout for a 200 series and a 09 LX popped up locally. Regular maintenance looks pretty spotty but it does show that the radiator and cam tower issues have been taken care of at 140k (currently about 155k on the clock).

My question is, it looks like the PO dumped the car not long after they declined to service leaking "shocks" … if I were to check the truck out in person, is it likely AHC warning lights will show up, or would I need to take this to a local shop for PPI to really know whether this was serviced at some point?

from Lexus:
CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE ~|~FOUND FRONT LEFT SHOCK LEAKING. ~|~ ~|~CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE,CUSTOMER DECLINED SERVICE -RECOMMENDED, NOT DONE-CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE ~|~FOUND FRONT RIGHT SHOCK LEAKING. ~|~ ~|~CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE,CUSTOMER DECLINED SERVICE -RECOMMENDED, NOT DONE-CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE ~|~FOUND RIGHT REAR SHOCK LEAKING. ~|~ ~|~CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE,CUSTOMER DECLINED SERVICE -RECOMMENDED, NOT DONE-CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE CUSTOMER DOES NOT WANT WORK DONE

Not afraid to service after the fact but not having much experience with Cruisers I'd like to know how much $ I need to potentially work down the asking price. And on that note, if anyone has recommendations on a good indy in Orange County, CA I'm all ears!

Thanks!

Mine are leaking too. Lexus wanted approx $2k to replace (which includes AHC fluid service).

I’m going to replace them myself this fall once I get time. The fronts are ~ $200 each (but I’ve seen as low as $150) and rears are $50 each.

Looking at the service manual, it’s 95% the same as swapping conventional shocks.

Good luck

You can just replace that one leaking shock and bleed the system and you are done. Set you back $200-$250 if you do it yourself. No biggie and simple fix.

Cool, thanks guys. Couple of follow up questions -

1. So a blown or leaking “shock” doesn’t necessarily mean the accumulators are bad? 2. If I put the truck in “H” would I be able to see any potential leaks? I saw in an old thread someone mentioned a shroud or cover.

No, doesn’t necessarily mean bad accumulator. The seals on the shock body just wear out and start to weep. In my case I can see wet areas in the shock body.

When you replaced the AHC shock - you will be introducing air into the system when you remove it - what is the procedure for getting the air out? Would it be the same as just bleeding the system again by adding AHC fluid then releasing pressure on each corner? Thank you.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. Have done spring/shock swap before on another vehicle but I’m definitely a one banana experience kind of guy. Sounds like I have some learning to do but not impossible to DIY.

Thanks!

Is this the one at Autonation Irvine? I was thinking of checking it out tomorrow and selling my 100 series. Not ready to pull the trigger yet but happy to let you know my thoughts if you haven't seen in person yet.

Yup! I stopped by yesterday and they told me it’s not ready for viewing yet. Pics are up on Autotrader now. Not much I can see except that there’s a small tear on the driver seat.

Edit: Would definitely appreciate your opinion if you go see it. Thanks!

Must have sold can't find it anymore online...

They go quick...the LX AT carmax sold too that was similarly priced.
