2013 LC Dealer Listing

Hi- this one seems to check all the boxes for me. Low miles, not much rust for a Midwestern rig from what I was able to see, 2 owners (certified used under second owner), nice interior.

$39.5K. Opinions?

I believe a significant portion of the undercarriage has been spray painted. If that was done as part of a rust control plan with something like Rust Reformer, good. If it was a hack job just to cover rust to sell the truck, bad. Take a must more careful look at hidden areas to see how that 7 year old IN truck is doing. With just the 2 pics, I have no opinion.

Understood- thanks. Those pics were taken by a salesman at the dealer and sent to me. I'm planning to look at it tomorrow in person.

Indiana doesn’t use road salt. Can literally trace the state border in the winter based on salt usage on surrounding states.

That looks acceptable. Not great, not structurally compromised.

Looks like it spent most of its life in IL plus an accident?

Not sure on your intended use, but you'd typically save money on the LX variants (that was my experience anyway). Quick autotrader search pulled up a similar mileage 13 LX in MI for $7.5k less which goes a long way towards tires, wheels, sliders, bumpers etc...just some food for thought.

I think the '13 LXs still look pretty good, you get into the 16+ and the front-end gets pretty scary.

Hate to say it but Indiana most certainly uses road salt in the winter. And a lot of it. So does almost every state in the union lately, whether rock salt or liquid brine. Florida, Alabama, Mississippi , and Louisiana may be the only exceptions.

Yes, true about the accident. My assumption, which could be wrong I suppose, is that if it was a certified used Toyota after the accident, that it was repaired well and won’t have long-term issues. Is that flawed thinking?

Road salt and lots of it is definitely used in Indiana.

Had a chance to see this rig yesterday. The KDSS valve bolts were seized when I crawled underneath it with my own allen wrench, but they put it on a lift and were able to get both of them turning. Good news. What I was a little uncomfortable with was the amount of rust on the rear differential (see pics). With that said, it has new tires and brakes, radiator looked perfect and I didn't see any cam tower leaking although it's hard to tell. The interior is in good shape and it seemed to drive very nicely.

They made me an offer of $41K out the door, but I walked away, at least for now. Any further opinions on how it looks rust-wise, and if the price is right? FWIW- I plan on putting a mild lift on whatever I buy and keeping it at least 8-10 years.

That's good new about the KDSS screws and radiator. Still seems a bit rusty (to me) for that price. If there are any other local options and you want/need one now, did you consider looking out west/down south to fly out/drive back? Or, if you think this is the one, then use the rust concern as a negotiating point for them to drop a couple grand off or have it mitigated.

In the end, it's your decision...

Yes...for sure would be happy to find a western/southern truck to either fly and drive or have shipped. I’m just now seriously shopping and this one caught my eye partially because it looked like it could be good, and also happens to be close to me. The offer they made was probably their final one, so I’m going to keep looking. Appreciate the feedback!

Let’s see what the others say here about the rust. Thought I got lucky when I got my 13 LC with 75K that had been in CO for its life for $44k...then after I bought it noticed the radiator crack.

Still no regrets as that’s fixable. Plus it already had upgrades like new wheels, tires, OME suspension, Rhino rack etc. Almost gave up searching and was going to get my hail damaged 4Runner fixed.

Much better photos....good to get your eyeballs on it too. Keep looking, but if they cave and ask a lot less, maybe re-consider? That much rust is not really restorable, so you'd have to live with it. You can keep it from getting worse, but it will always be there. Might depend on your plans for ownership....use and length of time?
