Alright I may be getting into stupid territory again. Tried to figure it out. What were these brackets originally used for? Dont have the experience to figure it out or anything to compare it to. If someone could explain their usefulness I would really appreciate it.

I have no idea. They remind me of something for a trailing arm or a torsion type thing? Both sides angled out <edit>. I dont have friends who have these rides and it's my first. I looked at pics of other 91's and cant say Ive seen them either. Thanks for your respose!
 
Look like the running board/side step brackets to me.

Recovery points/tow hooks. Although a pic would help to verify.

Tie downs, for transport. That's why they look too light for towing; they are.
