Ok, Here's the CRAZY idea. I fly down to somewhere in the Moab region and buy your unmolested, original steel, all Toyota drive train, not repainted, running, safe and legal, NON-project FJ4x. I wheel it on super light trails at Cruise Moab then... (and this is the really crazy part) I drive it back home to New York.

So, what's for sale?

I'm possibly thinking about selling my 40 :crybaby:

I have the ultimate good karma cruiser: a minimal rust '68 fj40 with 2f and 4 speed that was Kurt's first cruiser and most recently belonged to Jim of Portaltek axles. Kurt had the engine rebuilt and body done by a local shop but that was over ten years ago. It's been neglected in the meantime and I picked it up this summer. It does need to be gone through before it would make the drive back to NY (I did that drive in my 62 from DC to UT not too long ago), but there are tons of cruiserheads out here who you could hire to get it nice and tight and we could bring it to Cruise Moab. I just received a new TH carb in the mail and need to get a fuel pump from Kurt. I bought this because the body is in such great shape and all the parts are there; plus, it has a cool history, and it's old enough not to worry about smog but already has the 2f and 4speed (could use power steering and disc conversion). CM is still three months away, that's plenty of time for someone to tune it up and get it nice and reliable for your drive back east and overall would probably cost you less than buying one in ready condition.

I haven't decided to sell and really want to keep and restore it, but our neighbors are nuts (think Brian David Mitchell nuts, seriously) so if we move I need to start putting together a down payment for a new house. I'm into the 40 about $3600 plus the TH carb. I'm only thinking out loud and should probably just delete this post :hillbilly:.

Here's a link to the thread on Wasatch Cruisers when I bought it, and a little history from Kurt in post 16.
More opinions needed on a yellow fj40

I appreciate your posting this up. While it's a nice cruiser and the price is right for sure I'm looking for something more unobtanium for us folks up here in the northeast. I'm actually in the process of putting a 40 back together here that will be not unlike yours (albeit without the cool history). I'd love to find a survivor. Patina is good, rust is not (and when I say "rust" I mean northeast RUST, not yer little girly southeast rust. A unique model will be preferred over a straight up 40 (45LV etc)

I'm selling my 1981 FJ40. Here are the details and lots of photos.

May not be what you're interested in, but it's been to Cruise Moab a few times, and it's certainly reliable enough to drive all the way back home.

Matt... it is not what I am looking for but it is just about what I am building here. The goal is to keep it looking original with some upgrades. That truck looks great and is a great deal at 11k.

Thanks,
Mark

Sounds like you're not interested in FJ40s. You should check CL in the surrounding states for FJ45/HJ45s. There are some out there for sale.

Good luck in your search.

Not true... as I mentioned I would PREFER something a little different (my ideal is an FJ45LV) BUT I would consider an older (1960s-very early 70s) FJ40 in very original, non-project condition. Mid-late 70s FJ40s would have to be SUPER special and super original to be really interesting to me in this particular circumstance.

I'm searching around for a HJ47 LHD. Michael you mentioned that you may know of one on CL. PM me and let me know. Much appreciated!

Richard

Haven't seen too many LHD HJ47s. If you check Craigslist Denver, you should find a couple FJ45 trucks. Also, Google Craigslist.org and you'll find a tool to check all of the Craigslist cities.

Good luck in your search.

Michael

UPDATE: Ok, maybe the Craigslist.org advice isn't that great. I just tried it and neither of the two LHD FJ45 LPBs in Colorado show up on that search. There is one in Boulder and one in Fort Collins.
