What is the reddish substance/residue on what I gather is the exhaust system of this vehicle? The rest of the undercarriage looks free of corrosion?

Does it wash off? Dirt? Or that goop some people use to fill exhaust leaks? Rust?

I don’t know. Was looking at buying it and asked for pictures of the undercarriage. Looks rust-free on the frame; I just don’t know what this is. It looks like corrosion. It just doesn’t seem to make sense though. I’d have thought it’d be everywhere of it was rust.

I would view it rust based on temps encountered in exhaust setting as well as the base material. A stainless exhaust system from manifold to termination would add cost to an already pricey vehicle.

Looks like baked on dirt/clay. If you zoom in on the 3rd photo it looks to be on the cat shield too. I would not be concerned .

Isn’t our exhaust system stainless??

Exactly. Very common. That truck is pristine underneath, I'd have zero concerns about that.

Land cruisers in the US come standard with fully stainless exhaust systems.

Cooked mud.

Looks exactly like the bottom of my 80 after baking on the NC/SC red mud

I concur. Baked on mud.

Others here would probably agree I’m a stickler for corrosion on vehicles and to me this one looks great.

When I got it home I might try to take that mud off with a stiff wire brush but honestly that’s a matter of OCD satisfaction over it actually needing to happen.

This undercarriage is damn clean my friend.
