Generally pretty much the case is my understanding as well.

Wildpeak A/T3W 265/70r17 on black TRD Pro wheels post 21 4Runner (PTR56-89210-F2) have just a little bit of rub on inside bolt head at full lock. Not much of a mod to replace with a flathead bolt to prevent it. I used the ziptie mod until my sliders come in and will cut the offender off completely.

Depends if you need that extra bit of ground clearance, I need all I can get and then some but I'm not willing to modify the suspension on my Lux. Gas mileage does not seem to be adversely effected I'm getting 19-20 mpg on two lane roads at 62 mph with cruise on. Better then my second gen Taco did.

I sold my stock rims and tires, thought about keeping them for dedicated winter tires. But storage and hassle of swapping out another set once again I decided against it. So my Wildpeaks are my 4 season tire. If I was going through the hassle and expense of a dedicated winter tire I would get just that, a dedicated winter tire not the Wildpeaks. But so far extremely pleased with the Wildpeaks in the winter on snow and ice. I know the AT3W are discontinued but believe the AT3WA is still available and they may be worth a look. Lighter and softer compound so may be the best of both worlds, some Mercedes Benz OEM SUV's come with them. Wasn't aware of them before I purchased the AT3W but like I said no regrets with the AT3W.
Thanks for your reply.

I don't need the extra ground clearance. It will be 98% on road with a few brief excursions on well maintained gravel roads.

If I'm being completely honest with myself, I am using the winter tire angle as a justification to get a different set of wheels and tires. In reality I don't need them, but I want them lol.

I will stick with the 265/65/17 size so there is no rubbing. Like I said, I don't want to do any modifications to fit a new set of tires. And I'm fine with the stock size.

2022 with 275/65/18 aka 32.1x10.8x18 on stock wheels, no lift, spacers, etc. Mommas work commuter and around town runner.

did you manage to squeeze in that size tire underneath as a spare?

Cooper Discoverer AT3LT. 265/70R17. Spare fits no problem. Did some wheel liner massage with a heat gun to get rid of the rub. It was worse on passenger side.

Looks great! 👍
Have you tried lock-to-lock going into/out of a steep driveway?
I assume the fender liner you reshaped was in the rear? If so and if you're still have a little bit of rubbing do the little exercise I mentioned above, you can take it to quality 4x4 alignment shop and they can do an alignment that will push your caster forward a wee bit. I did that and most all the rubbing is gone without any effect on steering. But I'm also running 35" tires too.

I haven't driven it since I did the latest wheel liner massaging. But yes it was the rear liner of the front wheel well. I had removed the inner bolt. If there's any more rubbing I'll give that caster adjustment trick a try!
I was more stoked the spare fit up there without much effort. The cooper specs had it on the smaller side.

Good on ya!
Yup, being able to fit the spare is a biggie if you never have plans for a swing-out.

Installed some Falken Wildpeak AT3's in 265/65R18. Rubbing isn't bad enough to comment on yet. Just wanted to confirm fit of the same sized spare with the frame mount hitch.

I'll update when I find what is causing the rubbing but the spare was my biggest worry. I'm satisfied.

Are these tires LT or SL? I am looking at getting a set of these but Discount tire says they've been replaced by AT4W. Looks like the LT size is about a quarter inch larger in diameter.

Looks like SL. My LTs have different Load and PSI ratings.

SL. Ordered from Amazon. Received 1 Thai and 4 Japanese!
I'm guessing those are 285's?
265/65R18.

Yep. I just went up from 265/60R18 SL AT3's. Never gave me any problems or worries.
