I just installed new wiring in my 1982 HJ47 and the turn signals are not blinking. The lights turn on but don't blink. I have installed a new relay also but they still don't (cycle) blink, unless I keep moving the blinker arm...….I can hear the relay click once but then stops, any suggestion where to look would be helpful

Thank you.

Double check your earth's, I had a similar problem when my blinkers would blink once or twice and then stay solid. They started working again when I cleaned up (wirebrush and sanding to bare metal) the earth's on the tail lights...40 years of mud and crud build up....

That was on a 1975 FJ40.

YES to all that. Same issue on mine. Cleaning out the sockets was a big help. Home Depot sells a round wire brush made for cleaning out the ID of copper pipe before sweating the joint. It's an almost perfect fit for cleaning out the 1156/1157 bulb sockets.

Also, FWIW, try new bulbs. I was having the same issue with old bulbs (even ones that still work) not flashing. They would come on, but not blink. Clean sockets, dielectric grease, and old bulbs and I still had some issues. Swapped out to new bulbs, and everything was instantly fixed.

are the emergency flashers working?
is the rig 12 or 24 volt? what is the new flasher?
as stated above, grounds.

The flashers do the same as the turn signals....blink only once......all the lights are new with new bulbs...…new flasher unit.....
installed a new ground strap from chassis to bed....still not working ???

The light sockets each have individual grounds, make sure those are in good condition as well. Installing a blanket ground, like you've described, isn't necessarily going to solve your problem.

I think from memory the screws mounting the tail lights to the bar are the earth, pull them out and clean em up including the threads and nuts etc....get some bare metal contact between the lights and the bar.
