right blinker blinks real fast. Front does not blink. Bulbs are fine. I even swapped the two front bulbs. The FSM says perform some tests, but electrical is like Chinese to me. What is next most common besides a bulb being out?

My jetta does the same thing. If the headlights are on and I apply the foot brake then the blinking slows to a normal pace. I can also get it to blink normal if i give the front turnlight a tap or two. I have not dug into it yet but I believe it will turn out to be a bad ground somewhere.

Poor/burnt connection at the socket. The tabs may need to be cleaned or tightened to make better contact.
Then check for power, and ground at the socket. If you check these one at a time, you will know which side of the circuit to chase down. Using the EWD, you can find where the next connection point is in the circuit and test there, just keep tracing it back to the source.

Check the wiring for your trailer lights as well, especially if you have something hooked up there.

A short or bad connection/bulb/etc there can cause this sort of behaviour.

Had a similar issue that turned out to be a bad connection in the base of the front lamp socket. Tried several bulbs before I roughed up the contacts.

This was my first fix on my "new" FJ80, same exact symptoms. Make sure truck is off before starting

  1. Remove the front turn signal (two phillips screws)
  2. Turn light bulb socket to remove it , then push and turn light bulb to remove it
  3. Using small screw driver and fine sand paper, wrap paper on screw driver tip
  4. Lightly scuff inside socket with screw driver, blow off the excess
  5. Insert bottom of lightbulb into dielectric grease, see pictures below
  6. Re-insert bulb, test connection with hazards on. If missing, remove and reinsert bulb.
  7. Reassemble
