Turboglide install on my truck

I went for lunch today to meet a friend, so i drove a much longer drive with the newly installed turbo. My goal with the turbo was to make the truck powerfull enough so i didn't have to floor it when i would go up any grade, to keep my decelerating speed rate not to low :frown:. Before it was really a pain, anyone one who owns a 3B will know what i mean. It would just not accelerate at all and even slow down painfully. I truly have meet my goal here, the truck will now keep its speed on the grade i drove today and if i floor it, it would accelerate, something i would have never hope for before. It really make the truck a painfull DD to a cool and fun to drive DD (if you use a 3B has a Daily driver).

Yep! I go to school on top of a big mountain every day and it was dreadful. 60km/h MAX in 3rd gear, floored (1100F EGT) but now I can do half throttle (1000F) fifth gear at 80km/h :D

Call Turboglide they quoted me there manifold for 330$ AU, cheaper then a 13BT manifold and had already the bolt pattern for a Garret

$330?!?!?! I just asked before and they said $420! what a rip off! When did you get this price and who quoted you?? The price i got was from "John"

Keep in mind through all this that your engine wasn't originally designed around a turbo and you are putting a lot more stress on everything inside it. .

That's the reason for usualy drive at 2 - 4 PSI as much in normal dity driving .. just triying to keep as much as I can my engine out of innecesary stress ..

I've seen your videos.:D

Sorry it was probably 330$ CDN once converted, but even at 420$, it should be about the same price or even lower then a brand new 13BT manifold, and you don't need to use a flange adapter and the manifold outlet flange is oriented correctly. I also got it from John, unfortunatly i don't have that email anymore.

After a other 2 hours drive yesterday i notice more oil dripping on my from drive shaft (i supposed it was coming out of the push rod cover pipe). I had stop the leak there before by tightening the lifter side cover.

Anyhow just after i had finished installing the turbo on the truck i checked the oil, it was 1/2, so i added about a liter, without checking the level afterward. So yesterday i have a look under and notice lots of oil up the front driveshaft and to the joint at the TC output flange, there all wet with oil. I check oil and level it's at 3/4. Could over filling the engine oil cause it to vent through that pipe?

This morning i check everywhere on the turbo side of the motor for oil trace, and i cannot see anyleak, neither in the turbo oil line or anywhere else. So i think the oil really comes out the lifter cover vent pipe. No leak on the side of the block.

This morning i had a spot on the floor about 2"x2" of oil.

Should i use a different type of oil? I don't run this truck in cold weather.

Hmm, not sure what to do about that Eric.

Are you able to go up to Weir mid to end november? I have some guys here who want to go up there for a day of wheeling.

You should expect some snow, during the week will be hard for me.

I may bring you guys to a other place harder if there aren't any snow, would you be up for more challenge? Further tho

Not sure, would have to see who wanst to come from the club and how much further. We don't want to get more than 2 hrs from Ottawa if we can.

How long did it took you last time to drive there?

Eric ..

Did you check your bellhousing . the oil could come from there .? Just coz if your rear main seal ( I'm not sure if it's the correct name in english ) are litlle tired .. with more boost and strees in your engine coul go worse ..

I'm using 20W-50 here in Panamá and I can lose 8 PSI at idle after a hard run ( more than 10 PSI )

John from turbo glide told also told me 20w50 in summer, but here summer 20-30 deg C so probably not as cold. I use the truck until freezing temp, but it is always park inside. Should i go 20w50 or stick with 15w40?

When I recently rebuild my engine start using 15W-40 ( our temp usually here it's between 20 - 32ºC ) nice .. good oil press.

But After I fitted the turbo I note after a hard run my oil press drop seriusly .. close to 16 - 18 PSI at idle .. 650 rpm .. and after that swap to 20W-50 and keep my oil press over 22-24 PSI after a hard run .. and over 30 PSI with normal dirving.

Finally placed the order to John at turboglide for my truck (blame Louis)...

How much did it cost, and how many km on your engine? I'd really like to turbo my 3B, but I've got 650,000 km on the thing. Really tempted to do it even if I do blow up the engine. :)

2650 AU, Australien dollars, so that is about 2350 Canadien, I haven't received customs invoice from fedex yet. With gauge and exhaust i would say near 3000. I'm just back from a other drive, this truck is sooooo different now, a total new beast.

I would think if your truck still has good compression, do it..

My truck has 170000k, since i've tune down fuel i'm almost not leaking anything oil from the crank case vent pipe now, and i feel it is more responding. Maybe i had giving it too much fuel.

Thanks! What rpm/speed are you able to start to feel the turbo kick in?

Boost doesn't really come at a specific rpm or speed, the boost goes straight to 10 psi when it needs power or underload. For exemple on tarmac road starting from a stop in first i will hardly it 10 psi even if i floor it and that at high rpm, has i go up in speed and gear, boost comes up faster and sooner because moving the truck at higher speed requires more power. Thrid gear on my H55 is longer then 1st and 2nd, therefore if i recall when i shift in 3rd and floor it i reach max boost pretty quickly in the low 2000 rpm. Boost reach 10 psi closer to 2000 rpm in 4th and 5th. IF i rev the motor not moving in neutral i barely cross 5 psi, no load so no pressure.

But i've seen my boost reach 10 psi around 2000-2100 rpm. It really depend on the load. I haven't really wheeled the truck seriouly yet, But i'm sure going up a hill locked in rocks i'll reach 10 psi pretty quickly.

Anyhow max boost doesn't come at a specific rpm.

Only until i get the truck dyno again i will know exactly the rpm, when i reach max power and boost. But it goes to 10 psi very quickly.

let me try to post a video i did the second run it drove after i had the turbo. It was at night so we don't see much. It will give you a idea.

Can't find the video, i may have deleted it since it wasn't good. But i'll do a other one soon

So maybe 2000rpm to get 10psi at max load?
