anyone have an idea what a clean inside and faded but no rust outside none running '86 turbo 4runner might be worth ..just a ballpark figure.. i could get it cheap and either part it out or get running to wheel it..

I had to give $1500 for almost excactly what you describe, except paint was not faded and body was 100% straight, hardly a door ding even. 86 sr5 turbo/auto with blown engine and no rust.

I didn't have the luxury of a lot of time to search, and I don't live real close to any major cities so I'm sure I paid a premium. But I did call a couple junkyards and they wanted over $1k for a STRIPPED body. No interior (not even headliner) or running gear, not even the frame!!

It's worth a lot more if it's a 5-speed. The R151F tranny is worth $700-800 alone, even needing a rebuild. They're getting VERY hard to find.

Why is it "none running"? If it's the head gasket... well... I wouldn't fix it if I were you.

thanks for the input... my friend said he would take $500 for it maybe less since last month his wife told him "if that piece of junk wasn't out of here soon its free to the first one to come and get it.. so once again thanks.

Except, to the best of my knowledge, the 4Runner was auto-tranny only w/ the Turbo... :(

so what would you think might bring more parting it out vs. getting up and running to resell. I realize worst case the motor could run a couple thousand to up and running complete rebuild .. the thing is i am not really up on my 4runners I have been a dd land cruisers for the last 15 years. first a '75 40, then a '76 55 currently just picked up an '85 fj60 its my new dd. so you see i might even trade for cruiser parts tires wheels, ect.

Nope, there are Turbo 4Runners with the 5-speed out there, I've seen a couple now. They are very rare though, most got the auto.

I've seen 86 turbo/5 sp in mini-trucks. Maybe those are easier to source than in 4r's.

For $500 you better pick it up quick before word gets out. Rear axle & p.s. box alone worth almost that. I think the tranny is super heavy duty as well. I didn't use the tranny out of my donor but the guy who did said it was the same as fj62 & fj80. Can anyone confirm that?

I don't think there are any '87 4Runners with 5-speeds. I got my R151F out of an '87 truck.

My friend Mike Fox has owned several turbo 4Runners now, and he tells me the rear diff in the auto trucks is NOT the 4-pinion setup, like the V6 diffs. At least that has been his experience.

so out of the 1st gen. 4runners what would be the best year model to have? and is the turbo model any better than none turbo models. becouse i thought the whole reason for the turbo was to make up for the extra weight of the ifs. front end.

also are there any parts that are where shared with land cruisers and 4 runners of roghly the same model years?

If anything, only some little interior bits... Like coin holders.... No engine, tranny, axle stuff.... They are totally different beasts.

Some people will tell you that '85 is the best year, because of the factory solid front axle and EFI, but I disagree. I've had both, and I think you're better off starting with an IFS rig, then doing the SAS. The stock steering in the older SA trucks really sucks, so you have to convert it to crossover anyway. Plus, the factory front spring hanger is really weak, I routinely had to bend mine back out.

The differences in the turbo vs non-turbo trucks is the engine (duh), the tranny, sometimes the rear differential, and the turbo trucks often got a better interior. They often had a really fancy digital dash cluster that was a real pain to fix if it ever failed.

Oh yeah, the cool sticker on the tailgate. :)

Never seen one. Definitely would like one. :)

This is true also of many early V6 trucks. Owned one myself.

I have a freshly rebuilt 22rte truck for sale with 0 miles on the engine. Just did sas, 36 iroks, daul cases, locked front and rear, 5pt orange racing seats, brand new fenders, orange paint, black exo cage and cage bed. This thing is mint and VERY rare! asking 10,000. I have way more than that invested!
