Brakes on the troopie (81 HJ47) are worn out and am looking for options. I was just going to put new shoes on it, but am now considering doing the front disc conversion. I am in information overload here...there seems to be so many different ways to do this, I don't really know where to start.

What would be the easiest and quickest way to do this?

What should I be looking for?

I have seen a few "hub to hub" front axels for sale with the discs already there, but don't know which ones will fit the troopie. Do I need 40, 55, or 60? Will the all fit or only the 40?

If I can get one of these, what else will I need?

Thanks for all the help.

You need the 40 or 55 series axle.

You could also buy the knuckles/birfields and stuff from a 60 series or mini truck and convert your axle to discs.

what dan said--the 40/45/55 is a bolt-in complete axle swap. Minitruck or 60-series swap everything from the knuckles out. Depending what you get if you go the latter route, you may need different steering arms to re-use your tie rod. I'm not sure what bolt pattern your steering arms have, they might swap to the disk knuckles from a mini or 60.
good luck, it's worth the effort over drums, I assure you.

Hi greg, Aney cruiser up to 1990 you can use the hole frount diff. The swvil hubs will fit. Your stub axels and bearings will fit. The callipers of cruisers 1990 to 1999 have bigger callipers will fit and are better brakes. You can also fit the compleat himount housing out of a 91-99 hzj75 as they are the 4.11. gears. Better brakes, better axel seals and biger cv. Hiluv swvil hubs 1982-1997 with the full diff housing will fit your diff housing. [ I just fitted 89 hj75 stubs, hubs, roters and callipers on a 84 hilux, no mods just bolt them on. You may have to change your master cyldner and rear cyldners as they cuuld be a different size. Great old truck hj47. I had a 1982 modle for 7 years. Cheers.
